OH! MY! GOODNESS!
Every single time I start a new Bible reading plan on MomsToolbox I get all excited, but I think that this time I am the MOST excited! I am SO THRILLED to launch Bible 180 with you today!
Y’all, SERIOUSLY… THIS IS GONNA BE SOOOOOOO GOOD!
Today we begin a 180 journey into reading the entire Bible, cover to cover, starting at Genesis and reading every single glorious word through Revelation. Yep, we will read every word… And I will be here with you every step of the way. But, much better than that, the Holy Spirit will be with you, like really with you, if you ask His guidance… and, believe me, that is MUCH better than me.
Why read the entire Bible?
Oh my goodness, I love this question!
Reading the Bible is truly the best way to navigate life.
I have learned so much about marriage, parenting, friendship, business, health, mental health… pretty much everything, by reading the Bible.
No, it’s not always as simple as I’d like it to be, but it is IN THERE, y’all. And more importantly, learning about the One who loves us the most is in there, too.
I find that when I spend time in the Word, I am much more balanced and I am much more capable at handling life’s twists and turns. Reading the Word helps me to hear His wisdom so much better. It helps me to pause. It helps me to live the life I was designed to live. Yes, of course I still mess up a LOT. And this is yet another reason why I am thankful for reading the Bible. Reading the Bible shows me grace. It helps me see that I am given grace… and how I can (and should) give it right back to those around me.
I’ve read the whole Bible, cover to cover, more than a few times. Every single time I read the Bible, though, I hear more. I hear something new. I am always amazed and overwhelmed by its beauty and truth. And I want to share that with you.
He tells us that His word will never return void. I have found that to be true. I hope (and know) you will find that to be true, too.
I hope I’ve convinced you to join in… or at least give it try. If so, you may be wondering….
How will Bible 180 work?
- Well, the plan is for you each of us to read every single word of the entire Bible, cover to cover, starting today, right from Genesis 1 and going from there to the end of Revelation, in Bible order.
- We will read every day for 180 days straight. (Yes, we will begin today and read every single day through January 29, 2021.) There are not any grace days built into the schedule. When I have a day that I don’t read, I feel like something is missing. Reading days are grace days to me, so instead of grace days, I did my best to create a great reading pace for us. I hope you enjoy every day of reading in some way. (Yes, some days or tough… but you can do it.)
- If you are in for the program, please show your commitment by leaving a comment on this post today. We will all be cheering for you if you leave your name :)
- Invite friends and family to join you– it’s always great to have more accountability partners and you’ll get bonus points. (Okay, there aren’t really bonus points. But it will help.)
- I will post the week’s reading plan every Monday here on MomsToolbox.com. You will pop on by each week, take a look at each Monday’s post, leave a comment to let me and the others know how you are doing, take a look at the reading plan and download the week’s reading plan bookmark if you’d like.
- I will post more posts throughout the week, especially this week, but I will FOR SURE post every Monday. You can count on those as our ‘meetings’ and check points. We might even have a few video calls, so stay tuned. :)))
Reading tips for Bible 180
There will be days and weeks when the reading will be more challenging. Set up good reading habits now to be ready. Here are a few tips:
- Pray before you read each day. Ask the Holy Spirit to join you and guide your reading.
- To minimize distraction, set your phone on airplane mode when you read. Also, let your family know of your commitment. I tell my kids that if they interrupt me when I’m reading the Bible, they must join me in my reading. They have not interrupted yet.
- Rather than research your questions while reading, keep a notebook handy to write down any questions that come to mind while reading.
- Read at the same time every day. Make it a non-negotiable habit.
- Use the SOAP method to help find meaning in your reading each day. You can learn more about SOAP in my What is SOAP? post. After SOAPing, take your key verse, pop it onto a notecard and stick it onto your bathroom mirror to soak it in even more
Oh my goodness! Have I told you I’m excited yet? Because I am SO SO excited! This is going to be a beautiful adventure, sweet friends!
