A few goals for 2009

As promised, here is a second pass at my goals for 2009:

1.  Return to my Weight Watchers goal weight by Valentine’s Day. (6 weeks) Depending on what time and what day I weigh myself, this could be 5 to 9 pounds.

How am I gonna do it?

1.      Journal every bite I eat

2.      Attend at least 3 WW meetings between now and Valentine’s Day.

3.      Get moving! 30 minutes a day minimum, 4 days a week (Plus my anti muffin-top moves 5 times a week)

4.      Be more proactive in making healthier eating choices: Get better at menu planning and make, enjoy and post on a new salad every Saturday. (Is this possible? I hope so!!) Cut way back on the garbage and rev up the fruit and veggies in my life.

2. Keep up the SOAP posts 6 days a week as I read and journal through the Bible again in 2009. (Wanna join me in my reading? Send me an email and I’ll mail you a bookmark with a quarterly Bible reading schedule to make it through the whole thing this year.)

3.  Create and maintain an inviting, comforting home environment. (Doesn’t that sound lofty?)

How am I gonna do it?

1.      Keep my cool. Or get some cool. Just stop flying off the handle and take a step back when I feel myself becoming irritated. (Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger…. Thanks, James from the Bible, for that advice.)

2.      Seek God’s guidance in setting my priorities and try my best to LISTEN

3.      Reduce clutter (I don’t have a specific plan for this yet. I’d like to say I will tackle a room a week or month, but I know I won’t actually follow through. I need a different plan… any ideas??)

4.      Be more proactive in doing things for my husband and also ask him what I can do for him

4.  Be a better friend. (I’d prefer not to expand too much on this one publicly. I just could reach out more than I do and, you know, maybe send a birthday card here and there.)

5.  Stand for and pursue truth. (More on this later. I am so irritated with all the deception and emphasis on style over substance that I see in the world. This is an entire post in itself… no, a campaign. More later.)

6.  Train for and complete my second MS 150 bike ride with joy, dedicating every one of my rides to God. (Ride weekend is April 18 and 19. And believe me, you’ll have the opportunity to read much more about this in the coming weeks. :) )

So, what about you? Any plans for the new year? I’d love to hear what you have planned. Or if you have any thoughts or suggestions for my goals,  please, comment away.  (Hey family and friends– now’s your chance to tell me what you really think.  :) )

  1. I also love Flylady.net it has been helping me get organized and control the clutter.

  2. Hey Amy! Just a thought on your Reduce Clutter goal, have you heard of/checked out Flylady.net??? I love it and it has been helping me get organzied.
I hear the Flylady’s thoughts echoing in my head often. I need to visit her site again and give it another go. When I follow her guidelines, I can do so well, but soon I slack off….and then, well, not so good. (Hmm. Maybe I need to just stick it out and DO IT!! :) I just lose discipline. Grrrr.)

Thanks for the good advice/ reminder. I really appreciate it. I think I’m gonna check it out and try harder this time. :)

  3. I think your goals are awesome. I pretty much have similar goals (except for the bike riding – but I would like to learn to run!). Good luck!

  4. Hey Amy,
I also enjoy reading your blog. Nice goals. ….regarding clutter, have you ever heard of Flylady.net. it is a good website regarding reducing clutter. I just also bought her book and it has motivated me to throw out clutter and clean up more.

Good luck on your goals. happy new year.

  5. Love your goals, 144! They make me want to add a few to my own list of goals.

I started journaling “every bite I eat” yesterday to help me meet my goal of losing 20 pounds, and it sure helped me eat less! Of course, it’s not the most balanced diet yet, but then again, it never was. But it’s definitely better to eat less of an unbalanced diet than too much of an unbalanced diet, like I was doing.

And it was sure nice to get on the scale this morning and it was 2 pounds less than yesterday. I know I didn’t lose 2 pounds in a day, but it was sure more encouraging than being a pound heavier!

  6. Great list! I look forward to reading more about your goals during the year, especially the one about pursuing truth! A favorite of mine as I am sure you know already!
    Toni
