A little wordly irritation

So last night my husband and I were out having our date night. We saw a pretty serious movie, but one that made me appreciate our love and as we walked through a crosswalk my husband asked about the spring in my step. Or maybe he said bounce. But whatever: It was breezy and we were out in our old neighborhood walking from the movie theater to a spot for dinner. And we were having meaningful conversation. All was good.

Fast forward about 20 minutes when my Blackberry is stolen.

Yes, stolen.

As in, my husband and I are at a bar and two seats open up. He goes to stand by them and I grab my purse and our food and carry it over. One of us goes back to get our drinks. We sit and start eating and it occurs to me I left my phone on the counter. Mind you, our new seats are TWO seats over from the one we had before.

Well, by this time (maybe 3-4 minutes from the initial move) my phone is gone. It has completely disappeared. Buh- bye.

I used my husband’s phone and immediately deactivated my phone and then started shaking. I don’t think anything has ever been stolen from me.  And I’ve lost maybe three things in my lifetime that I can remember. (Sorry, Mom, about that gold boot charm in the 6th or 7th grade.) I’m pretty good at keeping up with things. But not this time.

How could that person do that? In my town? My ‘hood? In an area of town that has so many happy memories for me? And what will this thief do with all the infomation in my phone? Will my friends get Christmas cards from a new person this year? Has any important information been compromised?

Most likely my SIM card is in a trashcan somewhere. (I hope so.)

But grrr. This makes me so angry.

But, hey, I’ve got eternal life coming to me, and I doubt that guy/gal knows that he can have some of that, too. And I’ve got a husband who loves me and a healthy family and the phone was given to me by a neighbor anyhow. (I know, most neighbors might pass out a cup of sugar. Mine gave me his discarded Blackberry. Pretty sweet, huh?)

But yes, I’m inconvenienced and irritated.

But you know what? At least I can solve this problem pretty easily. And the phone thief can get started in solving his/her woes (which must be much bigger than mine) pretty easily, too. Guess I need to say a  prayer for him or her and move on. And keep an even closer watch on my phone the next time.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about your phone, but your reaction speaks to your character – I hope you are able to get a good deal on a replacement.

    Blessings,

  2. So sorry to hear about your phone!! Maybe you can get a little comfort in thinking that the thief won’t be able to unlock the phone due to that lock code you never figured out how to get removed.

  3. Sorry to hear about your phone. Thanks for being so open and sharing your true emotions and having a positive attitude towards the thief! Way to think quickly to inactivate and sorry about all the lost numbers! My cell phone went through the washer and dryer last week, so I know the pain of number recovery (no I didn’t have them saved to the SIM card :( !!!). I loved seeing your posts over at Happy to Be at Home! I am trying not to covet! your pot faucet! What a cook contraption!

Sorry, but you did look on the bright side. A couple weeks ago I went to many diiferent places before leaving for my visit in Ohio. While getting things together and packing I noticed my white gold diamond hoop earrings weren’t anywhere to be found. I wear these almost everyday, I mean diamonds go with every outfit. I looked everywhere, called every place that I had been and there were no where! Well I decided it was meant to be, they were material things, they can be replaced (or maybe not). I hadn’t lost what was truly meaniful, my Mom, my husband, my children, my grandkids, my friends… my life would go on and it did. Last night we were going out to dinner, I changed into dress jeans and a nice top and off we went. When I got home for some reason I put my hands in the pocket, and yep, there were the earrings. Funny though when you lose something that you think is so valuable it isn’t that valuable anymore. Again, sorry about your blackberry and the darn inconvenience!! I’ll let you know if I get a strange call, email, or Christmas card… maybe this year it will be on time (just a little joke).
