B 90 Days Day 5 SOAP: Diligent, Unquestioning Faith

Today’s Reading: Exodus 1:1-Exodus 15:18

I hope and pray your reading is going well. If you are falling behind, think about what you can do this weekend to catch up before Monday’s check in post. Most of you will hear from your mentor before Monday. If you do not, please send me a note. We have already been faced with a few emails bounced back. We want to do everything we can to help, but if we can’t get in touch that makes it a bit more difficult.

On to to my SOAP for the day:

Scripture: Exodus 10:18

Moses then left Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord.

Observation: There are actually many verses just like this one in today’s passage. Moses continues to pray to the Lord on behalf of Pharaoh.

Application: As Moses prays to the Lord, he completely trusts in His decision and action.

Moses already had his time of questioning and doubting the Lord, but here he is just presenting the petitions to the Lord and trusting in His response.

This had to have been frustrating and confusing. And yet Moses kept to it and trusted that the Lord would do what was best.

Prayer: Lord, there are so many times that I want to jump in and fix things. Thank you for this reminder to present my requests to you faithfully and then wait. You know the right steps to take. You know what should happen, even when I don’t understand.

Guide me as I live day to day, praying to you and praying to you for others.

Lord, I want your will to be done. Please guide me in pursuing exactly that and then following it.

Reading in Exodus today, I was struck by something.

    Exodus 13:16 says:

16 It shall be as a sign on your hand and as frontlets between your eyes, for by strength of hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt.”

Compare that to Rev 13:16 (creepy, huh?) through 17:

16 He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17 so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.

The juxtoposition of those two really hit me today. The mark, whether it’s physical or not, is going to be about choosing who you trust – who you are willing to honor and worship.

    I found this VERY interesting!

  2. Hello,
Just wanted to let you know I have dropped out of the Bible in 90 days reading program. I can’t really focus on it right now and I am not sure that it is my time to read it. I really didn’t get what I was expecting out of your mentors or site either. But thanks for everything, just wanted to drop by and let you know.

  6. I really enjoyed today’s reading. I was struck by the fact that God not only was “thumbing the noses” of the Egyptian gods, but that the plagues were actually an attack on the senses of the Egyptian people. All five senses were attacked in rapid-fire action: Sight, Smell, Touch, Hearing, and Taste.

Another thing that I saw was that our God loves order, not chaos. Notice the way He told them exactly what to do and exactly what would happen if they didn’t follow what He said.

Last, but by no means least, I see His redemptive plan during the passage about the Passover. “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” He so plainly shows us a picture of Jesus’ saving work at the Cross. May we never forget what He did, for us.

I am SO enjoying this walk through the Scriptures. Thank you again for the challenge.
