Hello sweet friends and fellow Bible in 6 months readers!
How’s it going?
I am so glad you are reading with me and hope you are finding the time in the Word rewarding. This first week covered a LOT of ground and might have held more than a few surprises. The Old Testament has some pretty hefty content.
Every word and every story is relevant and I hope your eyes are being opened to new things whether this is your first time reading or your 47th…. or somewhere in between the two. I know I am always discovering something new.
Please don’t worry about keeping all of details straight as you read. Especially at the beginning of the Bible, a lot is being shared right away and it can be overwhelming trying to keep it all straight. Just read, listen, soak it in as best you can and keep moving. We will see many of these people again as we read, but in much more detail.
I believe that the Holy Spirit will guide you in your reading if you simply choose to be disciplined enough to read. He will show you what you need. Just read and let Him guide you.
One thing to keep in mind: The Bible is not presented in chronological order. Genesis does a great job at setting the stage. The next books will fill in more details and will jump around in the timeline of the world.
To help you put things into context better, refer to the the handy You Are Here in the Bible resource pages at the end of each weekly post. They explain the timeline of the reading and give a brief explanation of terms you may come across which you may not be familiar with, as well as give you a rundown of the people in each book. I am so grateful to my friend Ted Cooper for creating these resources and allowing me to share them with you.
Ready to Read?
Before we jump into week 2, please take a moment and reflect on what you have already read… even if you just started with us yesterday.
- Has anything encouraged you in the reading yet? If so, what?
- Has anything surprised you either in the content of the reading or in your reading habits?
- Have you found it easy to find time to read or has it been a struggle? Why do you think that is the case?
- What are you hoping to get out of reading the entire Bible in 6 months with our group?
Check in, please
Please let me and the others know you are reading with us by commenting at the bottom of this post on MomsToolbox.com. Let us know where you are in the reading and, if you are up for it, share your thoughts on one of the reflection questions listed above this section. Your comments are a great encourager to me and I find they are encouraging to others reading, too.
Thank you so much for committing to this challenge. I pray that you see and feel Him every day as you read… and for your lifetime.
