The following is a guest post from my sister-in-law Toni, aka The Happy Housewife. She is a military wife, and stay at home(schooling) mom to seven sweet kids.
In 2006 I read through the Bible in one year and it changed my life. Even though I had been reading the Bible since I was 6 years old, it was the first time I had read through the whole Bible. Knowing that I had read every single word in the Bible at least once, gave me a new love for the scriptures. I gained a clear view of how the entire Bible is like a tapestry, stories woven together all pointing towards one story, one man.
In 2010 I am determined to do it again, but this time in 90 days. While I loved reading through the Bible in a year, I admit that during certain points I struggled to keep reading. Over the year there were times that I wanted to read other parts of the Bible but I didn’t have time to take on any extra reading.
I like the idea of reading through the Bible in 90 days, even if it seems a bit daunting. Homeschooling a large family keeps me fairly busy, but reading and studying God’s word needs to be a priority for me. Reading through the Bible in 3 months is a huge time commitment, but one I want to make.
Over the past year at my church many of the sermons focused on the fact that the entire Bible points us to Christ. I believe that reading through the Bible will deepen my knowledge and strengthen my faith. And, to be honest, I need a little motivation to get through Leviticus and Chronicles. I could read Genesis and John every day of the week, but I tend to neglect some of the less interesting (at least to me) books. Reading through the whole Bible reminds me that every book contains wisdom that can help me grow in my walk.
I am excited that Amy has invited me to join her in reading the Bible in 90 days. One of my goals for 2010 is to be more focused during my time spent reading the Bible. When I finished reading through the Bible almost 3 years ago, I knew I wanted to do it again one day. I am thankful for this opportunity and look forward to sharing the experience with an incredible group of women.
