Bible in 90 Days Twitter Party ‘Rules of Engagement’

I’m looking forward to our second Bible in 90 Days chat on Twitter tonight from 8-9 CST. Since we are unable to meet in person, our weekly Twitter parties serve as our weekly study meeting where we can connect with each other and discuss the week’s reading almost in real time.

Often the conversations and comments come at a fast pace. To help us all to get the most out of our hour together, I am going to ask that we all follow these rules of engagement:

Keep in mind that Bible in 90 Days is a reading program, not a study program. Our discussions are to help readers work through basic questions, but not to debate finer details from the reading.

Participants in B90 are of all levels of Bible proficiency. Some of our readers have never read a word of the Bible other than what they have read with us. Some of our readers have read the Bible several times. Some are seminary graduates and some haven’t been to church in years or ever. It is my goal that we keep this conversation approachable for all who want to be a part of it.

Please respect each other’s beliefs. We are not here to correct or even guide anyone’s interpretation of what is being read. Rather, we are here to encourage each person as he or she struggles with its meaning. Let’s let the Lord speak to each individual rather than speaking for Him.

Keep the discussion during our Tweet-up open for all. If two or three participants seem to be debating one particular point or idea, please consider Direct Messaging each other with your email addresses and continuing your conversation via email after our ‘meeting.’

Consider praying for each Twitter party participant as you see his or her message pop up for the first time or after the party.

I will have a list of discussion questions for each ‘meeting.’ Try your best to keep to the discussion questions and answers as much as possible.

And, during Twitter parties and always, if you are using the #B90Days hash tag, please be sure that your message is relevant to the Bible in 90 Days program.

It is my hope that these guidelines, which are adapted from the ones created by Ted Cooper for the ‘in-person’ meetings, will help to keep our discussion topical and postive.

I’m looking forward to our next Twitter party in just an hour…. Tonight’s discussion will be about the first 7 days of the reading, or up to page 84 of the Bible in 90 Days Bible (Genesis 1:1- Exodus 40:38).

See ya on Twitter!

Don’t forget to use the #B90Days hashtag so those following via TweetChat, TweetGrid or any other application won’t miss your tweets. And remember, all of your Twitter followers might be reading, not just the B90 gang.

  2. Hi Amy,
This is, indeed, an amazing adventure! Is this the check in leaky your spoke of? I think this may be the twitter, I can’t find the leaky link or the check in link. I’m confused about that. I was so touched and challenged by Wanda’s comments! I am spending about 1 1/4-2 hours each time to read and take notes of some things that stand out in the 16 chapters and I am able to do it after my husband leaves for work at 5:50 AM every day. It varies each time with my ability to concentrate, but taking notes helps. It is really a discipline for me that I have never done before, even though I have studied the Bible lots. The time has passed so quickly, especially after I get through the first 5 chapters. I am excited to do the next reading. We are going on holidays so I am going to try to read ahead so I may read less later. What is the link to the check list for the 90 days?
I am really seeing a lot of more clearly or don’t remember seeing at all!
I am amazed at the holiness of God, and the order that he expected of his people. The Israelites marched out of Egypt in order all under their banners. I’m seeing what happened to the Israelites, how God promised them the land of the Cananites, grandson of Noah that he cursed. He said he gave it to them because the people of that land became wicked not because the Israelites were righteous. They are a shocking object lesson that God means business when he says what he does. “My name is Jealous” He is holy. They got in trouble because they “did not serve the LORD your God joyfully and gladly in the time of your prosperity” Deut. 28.4 God sure hates grumbling! (these are lessons for me to apply and make sure that I purpose to praise the Lord. I’m finding more words to praise him from these passages. To really enter into praising him, with a whole heart. That’s an ongoing challenge I’m asking God to fill me. I need renewal!) God’s whole purpose was that they “might know that I am the LORD your God.” “awesome name”Deut. 28.58 God is the God of history and he has scattered the Israelites to the ends of the earth and he is bringing them back into the land of Israel as he has promised, after he made it desolate, just as his word said he would do if they forsook him! Another great verse today was: Deut. 29.9: The secret things belong to the LORD our God but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever that we may follow all the words of this law…for the LORD is your life (30.20).
    Blessings,
    Jan
