Blogging Through the Gospels: Luke 8:26-56

Guest SOAP post from Cheryl.

The reading for Wednesday is Luke Chapter 8:26-56

I first met Cheryl in person at Blissdom in February 2010 and we chatted about the Bible in 90 Days. Seeing her again in person at Relevant in 2010 was like greeting an old friend I had known for years.

Here is what Cheryl heard in the reading:

Scripture – Luke 8: 26-56

Cheryl opted to share her thoughts on the entire passage, rather than one scripture.

Observation:

Although Jesus healed generously, willingly and out of love not everyone understood Him.  Some rejoiced and others feared Him -driving away the one who blessed them.

Application:

I don’t want to be the one who receives God’s blessing and is afraid, waiting for “the other shoe to drop.”  I don’t want to run away from goodness.  What kind of a life would that be?  How must God feel when we don’t understand His heart?

I want to be someone who receives his blessings with open arms, in praise of His power.  Wouldn’t it be amazing to truly understand how greatly God wants to bless us and to wait with anticipation for His goodness?  It sounds like Christmas everyday!  I want to live with the faith and assuredness of the woman who bled for twelve years.

Prayer:

Father, thank you for your goodness.  Thank you for the blessings you so freely give.  May you open our eyes to see, our ears to hear and our hearts to feel the magnitude of your blessings.  May we recognize you in all we receive and praise you for your goodness.  Help us Lord to feel your hand in our daily lives, in the good and not so good moments of everyday and to know that you are God of all.  Amen.

Cheryl loves the Lord and prays that He will be glorified in her imperfection.  She currently homeschools four boys (three teens and a toddler).  She is drowning in testosterone but enjoying the journey.  You can find Cheryl on her blog Somewhat Crunchy.

What about you? What did you see and hear in your reading of the second part of Luke 8?

Do not be afraid. Only believe. This is what Jesus told Jairus. And what He tells us each day…

  2. Wow…do we tell Jesus to “go away” sometimes?? I hope not!
