Guest SOAP post from Andrea.
The reading for Saturday is Luke Chapter 10 .
Today we get to hear from Andrea, whom I first met ‘in real life’ at Blissdom in February 2010. Then we roomed together at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration this past Spring when she won a night in Cinderella’s Castle and all sorts of VIP treatment… and invited me and four other bloggers to join her!
I was, of course, thrilled she shared then, but today she is sharing much more than pixie dust.
Here is what Andrea heard in the reading:
Are you preparing a Harvest?
Scripture: Luke 10:27
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbor as yourself.” NIV
Observation:
There was a lot in this specific chapter to “see” with regards to how Jesus loved and what He called us to do. How often have I ignored that calling because of pride, busyness or just plain lack of desire?
Application:
Love thy neighbor. It’s a scripture I get confused over, honestly. OK, ok. I love ’em. There Jesus, that’s good enough, right? I mean, surely Jesus wasn’t referring to my neighbor who lets their dog relieve itself in my yard (on my tulips that didn’t bloom)?
Jesus is pretty clear when he calls the seventy-two to spread the Gospel and love with everything in us. They were given an urgent task to spread the Gospel despite all circumstances and hardships and to love no matter what. Even today, the command is the same just minus the camels in my subdivision.
When Jesus states, “The harvest is plentiful, but he workers are few” makes my job as a physical neighbor more than passing along a cup of sugar. It’s easy to be distracted, just like Martha was when Jesus was visiting. I am such a direct, to-the-point kinda gal that sometimes I miss opportunities to be in the moment and hear what’s not being said. How many times have I just given my neighbor what they needed and not taken the extra step to listen? Or, even offer to stick around and see why that sugar was needed.?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to love like you. To open the door for my neighbor, whether it be the one next door or beside me online. Hold my tongue when I want to express something that is not uplifting and encouraging. Fill me with your Spirit when I have an opportunity to show the love and grace you have offered me in abundance.
Open my heart more for you so others can see you in the sugar, the weed whacker or just my words. Help me to extend mercy and grace in situations when that’s the last thing I feel like doing.
Andrea is a work-at-home mom to three boys, publishing the site Savings Lifestyle. Her passion to help others save was all thanks to a storm God threw at their family. You can read more about that trial here. You can also find her helping other bloggers on SavvyBlogging.net and MyCouponDatabase.com.
What about you? How do you love your neighbor? And what did you hear in today’s reading?
