Blogging Through the Gospels: Matthew 11

The reading for Wednesday is Matthew 11.

When it is time to read, please start first by praying and thanking God for His many blessings. Be specific.

Next present your requests to Him. Ask Him for whatever you want and need.

Third, ask Him to guide you in your reading, so that you will hear his message for you today.

After you read, record your SOAP observations and then listen for three minutes. Set a timer and just  listen to what he might be sharing. Don’t ask. Don’t thank. Just listen. (You can pray more after you listen, if you like.)

Here is what I heard in the reading:

Scripture: Matthew 11:29-30

29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls, 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Observation:

Learn from me and do as I direct. What I will give you to do is just right for you and you can handle it.

Application:

I have been feeling overwhelmed. I want to do so much. I’m realizing that I want to do more than God wants me to do.

I need to do better at listening to Him and getting my assignments from Him rather than the world. I can do what He has planned for me without burden if I just listen to Him and squelch out the rest.

The past few days have been amazing to me as I have heard His guidance and then followed it.

I need to keep that up and really, really listen and then do as instructed… and not try to slip just a few more things in there.

Prayer:

Lord, I can already see a difference in me that has come from slowing down and listening more. Although I am still catching on and want to do a lot, I can see how you have stepped in to remind me to call on you and listen. I am still amazed by how you have asked me to get help and share the SOAP responsibility and how help has come.

Please, Lord, continue to guide me. Help me to see and follow your guidance. I want to follow you. I want to do what you have intended. Show me what is your plan and what is not so I can cross off all the things that are not yours.

I want to take your yoke and learn from you alone.

Thank you so much for the offer.

And please, Lord, guide others who are like me and are overwhelmed. Help all of us to slow down and just do what YOU ask.

  1. I wrote about how Christ wills to reveal the Father to us. We are not left in the dark as to God’s character.

One jumped out at me on the second read through that I didn’t expect. :)

  3. I chose Matthew 11:15-He who has ears to hear, let him hear. I’ve been praying like Amy has, to be more quiet and actually listen to God. I go, go, go, think, think, think, and talk, talk talk, when what I need to do sit, listen and be still. HARD for me to do! As I reflect on my personality its really hard for me to do that in my life. But, I’m working on it and I’m conscious of it, so I think I’ll get better. Another aspect I prayed about and posted last week was that I don’t want MONEY to be so important to me. Well, today as I was “being quiet” for the 3 minutes, I set my timer (first time I’ve actually set it for this purpose) I thought of my chosen verse today about hearing God. Next thing I know my timer goes off and the song I’d set (weeks ago) was Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems. Definitely not a Christian song, but still I liked it so downloaded it. Anyway, it made me think, hmmm. Wonder if God is drawing my attention to the fact that money still has a hold on me. All I can do is pray that He will help me get my priorities straight and let money GO!

  5. Are you striving for rest? Or are you resting in Christ?

  6. Good Morning Ladies!

I am feeling a little rushed this morning, but I was able to get my reading time in. I have written on it over at my blog and look forward to reading what everyone has to share when I return from work this evening.
