Don’t fear people and what they think. Proverbs 29

If you are reading the Proverbs in 31 Days with us, our reading for today (Tuesday) is Proverbs 29.

Scripture: Proverbs 29: 25

Fear of man will prove to be a snare,

but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.

Observation:

Trust in God and fear Him alone rather than letting people sway you and paralyze you.

Application:

This is sooooo for me today.

I have felt paralyzed so often with fear for what you, my dear readers, might think of me.

And that, my friends, is just silly. And wrong. And not trusting in God.

I have a wine blog and some of you might know that, others may not.

So often I worry about what you might think of that, but the truth is that I have received more than enough confirmation that the site is acceptable to God.

Just this morning I was even chatting about it with a pastor at my church. Last week I was talking about it with a winemaker who was blowing me away with his incredible faith and trust in our Father.

Enough of this paralysis. Enough of this snare.

I haven’t really been trusting in God. Instead, I have been living in fear of man (and woman). And God doesn’t want that at all.

He will guide me. I just need to listen to Him and not worry about everyone else. I have a ‘direct line’ with him, to borrow a phrase from my new winemaker friend, and I need to count on that.

Prayer:

Oh Father, I am so sorry I have been letting people guide me instead of listening to you. You are the all-knowing. You are in charge. And in you I should trust.

Please forgive me again for this mistake. Guide me as I begin to see this mistake better and trust in YOU!

Thank you for this reassurance. You amaze me. And you have, again, made my day.

What about you?

What did you hear in Proverbs 29 today?

  1. Our pastor preached on this very subject last week as well as another pastor we were visiting a while back. I feel that God is wearing out his 2×4 on me lately ;-)

  2. This is the same verse that stood out to me when I read Proverbs 29. I thought of the way fear is used as a marketing tactic… like for insurance/retirement planning, etc, –” Will you have enough to keep living like you’re living today? Are you protected when calamity strikes?” …. We can get so caught up in pursuing whatever it takes to prepare for the future that we begin to trust in our own strength and forget that God is the one who takes care of us.

I enjoy reading the different points God speaks to our hearts from the same passage of scripture.

    1. Ooooh! Good point!!
And I totally agree that it is amazing how God speaks to each of us individually with the same scripture. Prettty amazing!

I also want to thank you for the good reminder. I am not currently reading Proverbs with you, but still appreciate the emails. People-pleasing is a constant struggle for me which has resulted in physical complications. I so appreciate your transparency! I need to go read Proverbs 29! Thank you so much for your ministry!! =)

    1. I am glad you are enjoying the emails and appreciate you sharing your thoughts. That people pleasing thing is just ICKY!!! Let’s both kick it to the curb together. :)

  5. Amy, thanks for sharing this. A good reminder. This applies to so much in how we approach life. I think that one of the ways that we do this is to compare ourselves with others…whether it be physically, spiritually, emotionally…whatever. I read this quote the other day and I think it fits perfectly: Be comfortable in your own shoes. You’re a perfect fit for what God has planned. Amy, the topic of alcohol use among Christians is an interesting subject. I personally don’t drink alcohol because I have tried it and I just don’t like the taste or how it makes me feel. I’m very sensitive to it. My parents drank when I was a child, but I think they abused it in a lot of ways. They even allowed me to try several different drinks back then. I did a little bit of reading on the prohibition and it makes me want to do some research on this topic. I sure don’t look down on you because of your wine blog. Don’t let your own heart condemn you. 1 John 3:20 NLT Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything. 1John 3:20 NIV If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

    1. Oh, Amanda, thank you so much for this. :) I DO need to be comfortable in the woman God has created me to be. :)
