Scripture:
John 2:3
When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
John 2:9
And the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine…
Observation: Jesus turned water into wine for this wedding celebration, in order to continue the host’s hospitality. This was Jesus’ first miraculous sign performed.
Application: Today I am flitting about, trying to get ready for my son’s class party tomorrow and Christmas program tonight. I am letting myself get worked up about all the details. I don’t want to disappoint the kids, the parents, his teacher. And I’m thinking about other Christmas preparations as well.
It is time to calm down and call on the most hospitable one.
Prayer: Oh Lord, hospitality is important to you… you provided food and drink for many a gathering when you walked the earth and you continue to provide to this day. Please guide me and calm me and provide what is needed for the upcoming events, mine and anyone else who reads this blog. I pray that we will all lean on you and that you will calm our hearts as we tic through our lists. Guide us in making those lists so we weed out the unimportant. And let us experience your peace as we provide your hospitality to all those with whom we touch this holiday season. You can and will make it all work out as it should. Guide my heart in having faith in that and following your lead.
