I wanna be ready for this final exam!

Scripture: Luke 4:9-12

9Then the devil took him to Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the son of God, jump off! 10For the Scriptures say,

‘He orders his angels to protect and guard you.

11And they will hold you with their hands to keep you from striking your foot on a stone.’

12Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, “Do not test the Lord your God.’”

Observation: Satan tried to use the word of God against Jesus. But Jesus knew better and would not be fooled.

Application: How easy it can be to twist the words of scripture… I worry that I might mislead any number of my readers here whenever I offer my observations and applications. What if I am wrong? But I hope that I am not. So I pray about it and try to listen. And I’m making a point to spend time in the entire Word of our Lord.

You cannot get the whole picture by just reading a nugget here and there. It is critical to read the whole thing so you can gain a true understanding. To grow that understanding, you must continue reading, studying and listening.

I’ll admit that I was not much of a studier in college and I still coasted by.

This, however, is the real deal… the biggest final exam is coming one day and I want to be ready for that one!

I don’t want to let Satan mislead my by quoting scripture to me… I want to know the whole story and to protect myself with it.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for revealing your whole Word to us and making it so readily accessible. Please keep me in study mode and guide my study time. Dear Lord, please be with all those who are reading this and struggle with that time themselves. Stir their hearts and show them the way. Guide all of us in growing closer to you. Thank you, Lord.

  1. You hit the nail on the head. We have to know all of God’s word, not just pick a few feel-good verses here & there. The BIble is a masterpiece and every part works together. Thanks for the encouragement!
