MS Ride 2009: Take Two

Photobucket

As many of you know, my husband I signed up and attempted the 2009 MS 150 from Houston to Austin earlier this year. Except the first day was canceled due to weather and on day two I was only able to ride 26 miles due to terrible food poisoning. (Is there any other kind?) I am so glad I had the full two-day experience in 2008 because it was AMAZING.

Well, not to be defeated from our 2009 experience, moments after we learned of the first day’s cancellation, we signed up for another similar ride for Multiple Sclerosis which is taking place this weekend from San Antonio to New Braunfels and back.

Since the kids have been in school I have been training and have had some excellent rides, both in strength and in prayer time. I am quite excited and feel ready for the ride. The fact that I decided to opt out of the first day 100-mile option for a 72-mile option might have helped my state of mind.

My husband, however, who has had much less training time (Someone has to have an office job in this relationship!) is ready to roll and complete his first century ride (100 miles) on day one.

Here’s where you come in: Don’t worry. I am not asking for money here. I had lots of extremely generous donors for the ride in the April and I kinda feel like I owe it to them anyway, so it’s most certainly NOT your money I want here.

It is something even more valuable than that.

Would you please pray for us this weekend?

And would you please pray for the thousands of other riders, volunteers and MS Society workers who will all put in a lot of themselves to make this event shine?

And will you please pray for all those impacted by MS, that they might feel God wrapping His arms around them this weekend, and always, as they struggle with the devastating effects of this disease?

I would sure appreciate it, as I’m sure the many others would, too.

I am so thankful I have the opportunity to ride in an event like this one, that I have a healthy, strong body and a supportive husband, extended family and great babysitters. This whole endeavor costs time, money and a lot of effort. And God rewards me manifold as we chat throughout the training rides and the big rides. I love listening to Him as I zoom by the countryside and crawl up hills. I know He is with me… He has caught me and given me the nudge I needed more than once. And I can barely wait to hear and see what He has in store for me this weekend.

So, please, scribble us on your calendar for this weekend. And lift all of us up. We’ll need it!

And if you’d like to keep up with how I am doing on the ride, follow me on Twitter.  I’ll be tweeting at the stops.

    Hi Amy!
I stumbled onto your blog when searching for MS Rides in TX for 2010, and love what you are writing about the rides and everything else! I’ve been riding in MS rides for about 5 years (in OK. TX and NM) and we (team of 15+ with a core group of 5-7) are looking for another TX ride other than the one in DFW. So, maybe we’ll see you at a future ride! And, should you venture to OK for 2010 ride you are more than welcome to join our team if you’d like – Gu Man Group (URL below). My sister had MS. She passed away in Mar 2009. We ride in honor of her and many others we know who are still fighting.

Thanks for following God’s prompting. I can’t wait to read more on your blog.

    In Him,

    Kathy

You are in my prayers always, but I’ll do a double dose this weekend.
