If you are reading with me, today we are on Proverbs 29. (Remembering what to read in the Proverbs is as easy as remembering the day’s date when you read them with me.) That being said:
Today’s Reading: Proverbs 29
Using the SOAP devotional method, here’s what I heard this time…
Scripture: Proverbs 29:20
Do you see a man who is hasty in his words?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
Observation:
It’s not a good idea to speak without taking time to think first.
Application:
I can be impatient. And I can be impulsive in reacting to things, especially those things that frustrate me.
I think God is telling me not only to take my time in responding in speech, but perhaps to take my time and think through big decisions, as well.
I want to see movement. I want action. Sometimes, though, I should let it simmer a bit instead of jumping to action.
Also, when I feel wronged or frustrated by someone or something, I need to take a step back instead of firing out a response.
Prayer:
Lord, please guide me in responding to most things with clear thought and not with emotion. When I’m frustrated or even feel wronged, please help me in taking a step back, thinking things through, and then responding appropriately. I want to see motion. I want things to get done. And, sometimes, I want to lash back. All of those can lead to disaster… the last always, the first two sometimes. Please, Lord, guide me in measuring my words and actions such that they be appropriate and honoring to you. When I’m frustrated or angry, please help me to remember your guidance here to not be a fool, but to take the right time in responding.
Thank you, Lord.
