Welcome back and Happy Friday! Today in our super fancy Proverbs in 31 Days reading plan we are on Proverbs 4.
Here’s what I heard…. (You do know about the free printable journal so you can track all of this for yourself, too… right? If not, the link is down at the bottom of the post.)
Today’s Reading: Proverbs 4
Using the SOAP devotional method, here’s what I heard this time…
Scripture: Proverbs 4:25
Let your eyes look directly forward,
and your gaze be straight before you.
Observation:
Keep looking ahead at the path set out for you and follow that. Do not be distracted by sideshows. ( I added that last part)
Application:
Yesterday I found myself praying my Proverbs 3 verse over and over. I needed Him to make my path straight, as I saw so many paths that were distracting me and needed guidance.
Today’s verse grabbed me for similar reasons: So often I see things that pull me off course, away from my true goals and direction. Other things often look attractive and fun, and sometimes I can even make a case for how worthy they may be. When I really sit down and look back (and ahead) I can see my distractions as distractions. Sure, they might be the right thing for someone else, but they aren’t the right thing for me, right now.
Today’s verse is reminding me to keep looking forward. Keep focusing on the path God has set for me. Keep listening to the One that guides me. I need to keep my eyes looking directly forward, not distracted. I need to focus on listening to His direction. God certainly has my best interests at heart.
Prayer:
Oh, Father, thank you for listening to my calling out to you yesterday, asking for you to make my paths straight. Today, Lord, I am adding to that, asking you to not only set those paths straight, but guide me in focusing on them. As you know, I often need help looking straight forward. Please, Lord, help me to see distractions for just what they are: distractions, and instead put my efforts in the direction you have set for me.
You’ve put some pretty amazing things ahead of me. I just have to stay focused to get there.
Thank you, Lord, for being here and guiding me when I call out to you.
Amen
