SOAP Daily Devotion: God brings big results

When I’m not reading through the Bible in 90 Days, I use this reading plan to keep me in the Word daily.

If you aren’t already following a daily plan, or you are between plans, I hope you’ll consider joining me. Just jump in on today’s date.

Today’s reading: Nehemiah 5-6, Psalm 146, Luke 24

Here’s what I heard using SOAP:

Scripture:  Nehemiah 6:15-16

15So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days. 16When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of God.

Observation:

The wall’s repair was completed rather quickly and all who heard about it were amazed. Yes, there were many hands involved in the work, but there was no way that it could have been done without the hand of God and this frightened many.

Application:

It amazes me how much God allows me to accomplish when I seek His guidance and support.

Years ago I never would have expected to have the ability to ride a bike from Houston to Austin and giggle (and cry) as I crossed the finish line. But I committed my rides to God and He has carried me many times.

I wanted to read the entire Bible for years, but once I really committed to it, He saw me through to the end in 97 days. And then again in 90 days several times. And then He invited me to invite others to join and I sought His guidance there, too. Now hundreds (maybe thousands) have read along with me.

Both of those efforts came about after a lot of prayer. And both of those efforts were realized through continued prayer and teamwork…  I needed the accountability of others in my riding and in my reading. And I know I had quite a prayer network for both, as well.

Is my life simple and easy because I commit my efforts to Him? No. But I still see Him in so many details. I am amazed and filled with joy each time I notice a new one.

Without Him I couldn’t do half of what I do. He strengthens me. He empowers me. He guides me and loves me and whispers in my ear. He has given me an amazing ride so far and I am continually blown away. It’s not been what I expected… at all. But I am still amazed.

What can you commit to the Lord? How will you allow Him to carry you? Just ask, listen and follow, leaning on Him.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

I am continually amazed by you. I love how you are using me. Thank you so much for allowing me to be an instrument!

Please keep me close. Allow me to continue hearing you and serving you.

And please, Lord, enable others to grow closer to you and follow your prodding, as well.

Together we all want to make the right differences for you… differences that will be undeniable and no one can explain away except by pointing directly at You. Guide us in hearing your voice, pulling together in the teams you know will be best, and accomplishing YOUR goals.

You are amazing. Thank you!

  1. I remember when I took CPA board exam, there are two sets of questions for Audit problems. I don’t understand the given data on both set of questions. I already spend half the time allotted to us and my answer sheet is still blank. Not even a single answer. I know, w/o exaggeration, I will get zero-score. Then I remember to pray (I prayed continually, long before the exam). After my prayer, something click in my mind & suddenly I know what to do. I still don’t understand the given data, but I made intelligent guess on all my answers. Know what? I got a very high score on this subject – only 1 wrong answer! No doubt I passed the board because of God’s intervention.

I think God bring big results so no one can deny that it is from God – thus give Him all the glory.

  2. Yes. God brings big results – to the point that we will know w/o doubt that it is the work of God (& not just coincidence or luck). God is so amazing!
