Today’s reading is Acts 13. Here’s what grabbed me:
Scripture:
And the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.”
–Acts 13:52
Observation:
Even though they were being persecuted and expelled, their joy could not be stolen.
Application:
For this one, you really need the context. The disciples had just followed God’s lead to go to an area and preach the gospel with a bunch of people. They did, and the result was exciting. Well, this excitement angered some of the Jews who then forced Paul and Barnabas to leave the town. Getting run out of town could not have been so joy-inducing. And yet, the two men clung to the good they had done and left the are filled with joy, not fear or anger.
Can you imagine that?
The last week has held a lot of frustration for me. What I am hearing today is that yes, there will be things to frustrate me. But I can be stronger than that with God. At least no one is running me out of town!!!
Prayer:
Father God, I am feeling a bit like an energizer bunny who might need a new battery. Reading this, though, I want to reach deeper into you and gain your strength, I want to be filled with joy from YOU and be strong and joyful, even when somethings may not go my way. Help me to turn to you for that endurance and joy. It’s in there. I just ned to give THAT power instead of evil.
Thank you, Lord.
