Scripture: Romans 1:9
God knows how often I pray for you. Day and night I bring you and your needs in prayer to God, whom I serve with all my heart by telling others the Good News about his Son.
Observation: I pray continually for you and God knows it.
Application: Lately I have been reminded about persistence in prayer. I have been presented with scriptures several times which talk about praying for things repeatedly.
So often I will receive a request, ponder it and pray about it and then move on in my day.
Some requests I return to, but not many. Before, I thought this might be because I was turning it over to God and simply not worrying about it anymore.
But I am now becoming convinced that he wants persistence. He wants me to go to him and ask and discuss repeatedly. He doesn’t want me to pray once or twice and let the issue slip out of my mind. He wants me to continue to go to Him in prayer.
No, I don’t believe he wants worry. But I do believe he wants persistence so we can build a stronger relationship and I can see him really move.
Our church launched a prayer campaign a few weeks ago and now we are launching phase two. We were asked to fill out prayer commitment cards. And as I saw that, I was reminded that I had committed to pray daily for someone. And I had not done that daily.
And today I come across this.
I’m going to find a way to really make those prayers happen. And continually pray for the requests I get from other friends, as well… not just a prayer here and there, but some sort of disciplined prayer life.
I’m not sure exactly how to make it happen, but I will pray for the right strategy to come to me.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for wanting to hear from me. And thank you for telling me over and over lately that you want to hear from me over and over. Guide me in growing my prayer life to make it more pleasing to you. I want to pray in a way that honors you. Show me how, Lord, and keep teaching me.
And thank you for this reminder and lesson in persistence. It’s funny how I get that concept in earthly matters, yet I let it slip with You. And my relationship with you is much more important than anything earthly.
Please show me how to do this Lord.
I am linking this post to Works for Me Wednesday in hopes of getting some good ideas of what works for others in their prayer life. If you have anything to share, please do.
