Scripture: Mark 10:18
“Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good.
Observation: Woah. Now THAT is humbling. Jesus, who looks and sounds pretty perfect to me, is saying that he is not to be called good. Yikes.
Application: I wonder why he said that. Perhaps because of the fact that part of him is fully man he had thoughts we do not know of which he found to not be good. He, however, never gave in and stayed strong for all of us, always. Satan tempted him and he said “No.” He later prayed that if the cup could be taken from it that it would be… but he followed that up by saying “not my will, your will.” He was truly amazing and put EVERYONE ahead of himself. And yet he says he cannot be called “good.” Wow. I’m certainly not good, then.
Prayer: Lord, you are amazing and unselfish and completely loving. Thank you for loving me and sharing so many blessings with me even though I can get a little too proud of myself. I am so far from perfect and so far from living just as Jesus would have me live. And yet you still love me. Thank you. And thank you for this reminder that only YOU can truly be called good.
