Walk in Love

Scripture: 2 John 1:6

And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.

Observation: Throughout the Old and New Testaments this command is echoed: Love your neighbor as yourself. And here it is again: Walk in love.

Application: Love is given lots of fluffy, superficial meanings by wordly standards. But lately I keep getting message about selfishness and self-sacrifice. True love is not selfish, and it involves self-sacrifice.

In loving others we are to put their needs before our own. In loving, we are to serve others, often at our own selfish expense. I am called to serve my family and those around me in love because I am commanded by my father to do so. This is a tough lesson I’ve been working on for some time now. I want to take care of number one. But “number one” is not me, as I’ve thought it was for many years.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for continuing to bring me your word about showing love and serving others. This is encouragement that I am on the right track. Thank you for changing my focus from serving me to serving others. Please continue to guide me, as this does not come naturally to me.

*** On a nother note, I have a question for all you more Biblically educated than I: For this scripture’s address, was I to write it the way I did or not use a chapter number at all, seeing as 2 John is only one chapter? Please leave a comment if you know. Thanks for your guidance and forgiveness for my ignorance.

  1. Hi, I just found your site and love the SOAP concept. I just started a blog and hopefuly you don’t mind but I would like to use it there too.

Anyways, to answer your question. There really isn’t a right answer. The way you wrote it is fine because there is only one chapter in 2John. But it is also correct to write 2John 6, it would make sense when you opened your Bible to look for chapter 6 in 2John -then you would quickly realize there is only one chapter and should go to verse 6. Hope this helps and thanks again for your great site, it is already a blessing to me
