What goes in is what comes out. Luke 6

If you are reading Luke with me this month, today we are reading Luke 6. If you haven’t been reading, feel free to jump right in where we are and read with us though the end, journaling your own observations.

Here is what I heard today using the SOAP devotional format:

Scripture: Luke 6:45

The good man brings good things out of good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil out of evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.

Observation:

What you store up inside of you is what you share and reflect.

Application:

Reading the Bible helps me to store the words of the Lord in my heart. If I am not actively reading the Bible, I am not filling myself up with His word, but something else. That doesn’t mean I am memorizing all the words, but I am filing myself up with the stories and wisdom of the Bible.

There is always something going in and it is up to me to be sure that the Word of God is part of what I am feeding myself so that I can reflect it right back out of me.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for making your Word so accessible to us. Thank you for giving us so many ways to take you in daily so that we will be filled with good and not evil. Please guide me in continuing to read your word and help me to store up the messages you have for me, so that good can come out of me.

Please, Lord, guide all those who are intimidated and overwhelmed by the Bible into a relationship with you and a reading plan of your Word that will enrich them, inspire them and keep them going.

Thank you, Lord, for all you teach me. Please help others to see your wisdom and be inspired by it, as well. And if I can help in that process,Lord, show me what to do.

What about you?

What did you hear in Luke 6 today?

How do you be sure to fill yourself up with good things?

  1. Years ago, when fresh in the job market from college, I heard all kinds of language that I’d never been exposed to. When someone would apologize to me afterward, I’d wave it off –“Oh, that’s okay.” It wasn’t. Those words started to spill out under my breath when I was under tons of stresses and pressure. It stunned me how easily something that’d never been part of my life easily started showing up. What goes in does matter!

I thought that the longer I remained consistent in a daily quiet time, it would get easier and become more routine but quite the opposite seems to be happening. There are so many distractions and I’m having to push through each bible study but I guess Satan would love nothing more than for me to quit. I’m learning and growing and I’m sure he hates that :) So I still haven’t missed a day even though I’m struggling. Here’s mine for today: http://jewelsgems4.blogspot.com/2011/12/luke-6-students-follow-in-their.html
