If you read the post before this one, you know my dehydration tale. (If you haven’t read it, go check it out and come back.)
I was sharing my story with a fantastic dietitian friend this morning and she unlocked the mystery further… Her hypothesis is that I was drinking enough water, but depriving my body of electrolytes. She recommends good old Gatorade. (I should have stayed with my gators!!)
We were discussing my body weight. I find that the afternoon or evening after a big ride I weigh more, and as time passes between workouts, my weight drops. And then I’ll ride again and my weight jumps a few pounds. This information led her to believe that I do in fact drink enough water and that my body is holding it (hence the weight gain) but that I am diluting my electrolytes. And my muscles need the electrolytes to prevent cramping.
So, there you go! How fortunate am I that God has placed such knowledgeable and kind people in my life? And how wonderful that He chose to teach me this now so I would be better prepared for my ride and not face unneeded challenges during the MS 150? He is truly preparing me in every way!
