Last night I had the most amazing culinary experience of my entire life. It was at a restaurant in London called Parlour. I’m debating with myself as to how much to write about it, so as not to give away the whole experience and ruin it for others, but just know that if you are looking for something crazy amazing and definitely extravagant, this is the place to go.
That had nothing to do with my reading today, but I really just had to share. Perhaps I’ll share a few photos in a later post.
Okay, so back to the topic at hand: today’s reading in Psalms.
Today’s reading was really deep and sorrowful. David is feeling the weight of his sin and certainly struggling. This chapter makes me especially thankful for the saving grace of Christ. Finding one verse that especially spoke to me was difficult.
Here’s what stood out to me especially in Psalm 38 using SOAP:
Scripture: Psalm 38: 15
But for you, O Lord, do I wait;
it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer
Observation:
It is not the accusations and responses of others that I will hold dear, but it is your response, Lord, that I seek.
Application:
David is suffering. He knows that only the Lord can answer him in regards to his sin. Other people may close in and mock and plot against him, but he is blocking them out, only seeking to hear the Lord.
My one true judge is the Lord. I need to seek his guidance and seek his forgiveness. My relationship with him should be above all else, not the other way around.
I do try to seek him and listen in all circumstances. Nope, that isn’t always easy, but it’s as I feel instructed. He wants us to cry out to him, to confess to him and to feel his glorious forgiveness as we move forward.
Prayer:
Lord,
Thank you for the forgiveness of my sins through Christ. David is struggling here and yet he isn’t looking for a quick fix to get out of the weight of his sins. Instead he is calling out for you. Thank you for answering him and all of us with your love and your son.
Thank you, Lord, for listening to each of us as we call out to you. Help each of us to seek you, rather than listen to the judgement of others. Help us to drown out the noise and instead call out to you and embrace your love as you embrace us.
Please, Lord, let those who are feeling crushed by their sin come to know you and learn how to gain the freedom you give us as we follow you and confess our sins and live in your love. I’ve certainly messed up at times and I am grateful for your love and forgiveness of me. Thank you so much for keeping me close each time I asked you to do so. Thank you for always welcoming me back and allowing me to hear you, to feel you and to follow you. Thank you for your forgiveness and love.
Amen.
