Please don’t just listen

Scripture:  Ezekiel 33: 31-32

31My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths open they express devotion, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. 32Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice.

Observation: Ezekiel was sharing God’s word, and many listened, yet few took to heart what Ezekiel was really saying.

Application: It saddens me to think that anyone could listen to the word of God and just take it for its entertainment value. His word is truth.

If you are reading this and you don’t believe the Bible, I mean REALLY believe it, then, please really read it.

These little tidbits I share are just that: tidbits. And you cannot live on tiny snacks. Dig in for the meat.

Follow a reading schedule and listen to what God has for you. If you don’t know where to start, jump in right where I am, using my church’s Bible in a Year plan. Yes, I know that sounds intimidating. But just try it for 2 weeks and see what happens.

I don’t want to be any one’s sweet entertainment or little glimpse of sunshine. I want to inspire you to get in there and hear what God has for you. My prayer is that my SOAP entries contribute to your personal study but do not replace it.

Prayer: Oh heavenly Father, thank for inspiring me to share my daily devotional time with all those who wish to share in it with me here. Please, Lord, guide those that do read this to study and find your truth on their own, as well. Please let this contribute to their own personal study and not replace it. And guide those that may embark on a reading program (for the first time or the 15th) that they may hear your word and crave more of you. Thank you, Lord for guiding me to you and continuing to inspire me.
