Scripture: Luke 3: 11
John answered, “The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same.”
Observation: John is preparing the way for Jesus, sharing ways the people can repent. This was just one of his three suggestions.
Application: Ummmmmm. This verse is quite appropriate for me right now. Our family in Dallas shared with us what they could while we were without power in Houston. And now that we’re back, many around us are still without power. And so we will share with them.
This one is really easy for me to apply this week: I need to share the resources I have with those who do not have those resources. And if you have resources to share, by all means, make those offers!
But this isn’t just for times of disaster and strife. It is for all times. We need to see the gifts God shares with us as just that: gifts. These gifts are not given to sit on and hoard. They are shared with us so that we can share with others. So, even if you can’t reach out to a hurricane victim, you can reach out to so many others. And that doesn’t even mean the “less fortunate.” I think it means everyone. Because we all, at some point, have something to share.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord for allowing me to see how I can help those around me. Please continue to open my eyes, though, in ways you would like for me to serve you and share the gifts you have shared with me. And thank you for those who you have put in my life who have shared, and will share with me.
Please be with all those who are suddenly coping with life in a new environment due to Hurricane Ike and other struggles. Please give the workers who are restoring power and other amenities the strength and rest they need as they share their gifts with so many that need them.
And thank you for being present even in our challenges. Thank you for the knowledge that you are always here and will never forsake us.
