B 90 Days Day 16 SOAP: What are your stones?

Today’s Reading: Joshua 1:1- Joshua 14:15

Scripture: Joshua 3:24

He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God”

Observation:

God instructed each tribe to take a stone from the center of the river Jordan as they were crossing on dry land so that they, and generations to come, would remember that day and the Lord’s strength and provision.

Application:

What do I do to remind myself and my children of the Lord’s provision? I like to think I keep track here, and in a journal, but I don’t think these are enough because they record other things, as well. I need to find a better way to memorialize the blessings so that I can see them at a glance.

Prayer:

Lord, you have shown me time and time again that you will never leave me and that you will never let me down. You have shown me your power and amazed me. I don’t think I could ever forget that. But here you instructed the 12 tribes to set up the stones so that generatins to come would not forget. Show me Lord what my stones are to be. Show me how to  forget and continue to share evidence of your power and blessings in my own life.

Should I create a blessing journal or scrapbook, stock a blessing chest? Please show me Lord. I never want to forget all the amazing things you have shown me. I never want to stop being amazed by You.

So, dear readers, I ask you… What are your stones of remembrance? Please do share…

wow, all the comments I read are so uplifting. All I do is just talk to our children about God and how important He is. Not to mention I do daily readings and each morning I wake up and pray and thank God for the day

  2. I think you hit on the key yourself – so that generations to come will not forget. Telling your children, and after that your grandchildren, is so important. My nan was a great storyteller; I can still remember the little story she told about Easter eggs when we were kids, but I also remember what she told me more recently about her life – her childhood, where she worked, World War II … Just the same as natural things stick in your mind, spiritual things do too from when you’re a child, so I would say keep passing it on.

And talking of passing it on, I want to thank you for Moms’ Toolbox. I’ve really enjoyed reading your SOAP devotionals this last week, since I subscribed, and would happily recommend this blog to friends.

  4. In my bathroom I have a bowl of pretty rocks that I bought on 50% off day at our local thrift store. On them I wrote names of people that we pray for, my family, friends, etc. I think I could expand that with adding prayer answers and blessings that I am thankful for. My kids especially like the rock bowl, as they call it.

  5. I recite them in my prayers, esp if I ask God for miracles. This is (1) to thank God for past miracles and blessings and (2) to remind myself of His goodness & His power – that help a lot to trust God in my prayers.

I write in paper (and signed) declaration (sort of) of my faith in Him, why I know He is real, what He done in my life and whatever happen in the future the only best thing to do is to trust God. This is for the future in case I forget about God or If I forget the great feelings of studying His word and being in His presence.

  6. I forgot to do my check in yesterday…I am about a day behind and trying to get caught back up.

Hi all. I’m slowly catching up. I’m almost to Numbers. I started a new job this week so I’ve been a little distracted. I’m not giving up.

  8. I hadn’t thought of making a list or having a “stones” method of remembering what the Lord has done for me. I’ve always relied on my memory, but let’s face it, even that can fade. I will have to consider what I can do to establish physical reminders of His provision. Great SOAP, thanks for sharing!

  9. I love the concept of setting up stones of remembrance… it can be far too easy to forget what God has done!!

I mentioned last night that I have a “faithfulness chest” – a box where I keep little treasures that remind me of God’s goodness in my life. To be honest, I haven’t been actively adding to it for several years. But I do pull it out from time to time and am overwhelmed. I blogged about it here (focusing on one of my more unusual and meaningful “treasures”!): http://www.krististephens.com/2009/11/lessons-from-my-treasure-box-the-god-who-sees.html

Thanks for the encouragement to start adding to it again!

Checking in late…. I have so enjoyed reading through the Bible and am amazed at the many new discoveries each and every day that I am seeing as I read. ‘I thought I had read it all before….’ impression is really being challenged and in a good way. I keep a book of all my questions, new insights and new favorite verses. This week what caught my attention the most was all the great parenting guidelines that I am gleaning from the reading…. So far God has been so good to me, and I am on track and feeling so blessed by the washing of His Word over me every day

  11. I never really thought about that….you could make a blurb book of all your blog posts…but it really is something to be treasured and we often forget that!
