Day 49 of the Bible in 90 Days
Scripture: Isaiah: 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
Observation: Isaiah pretty clearly outlines the coming of the Messiah.
Application: Here it is, the prophesy pointing to Jesus’ identity, plain as can be to Christians reading the Bible now. And yet there was so much debate. Jesus was not recognized by the religious experts of the day for who he was.
I often wonder how much else we miss. It is easy to look back and see everything before us and wonder how they could have missed all the ‘obvious’ signs back then. But I wonder what ideas do we now dismiss as absurd because we don’t have hindsight.
What is God telling us that we are so plainly missing as so many missed Jesus’ true identity?
Prayer: Lord, thank you for giving me the gift of your Word and the opportunity to read and study it.
Please, Lord, help me to see just what it is you have for me to see and understand just what it is you want me to know.
Guide me in pursuing your truth, which is the truth. Guide me in relying on you first and ‘scholars’ second.
I don’t want to miss what you have set out for me to see.
And please, Lord, for all those that are struggling with questions and are too intimidated by ‘experts’ to ask, empower them and help them to grow in relationship with you so that they won’t doubt and worry, but instead will grow in true confidence in their understanding of you.
Thank you, Lord for your son. And thank you for your Word.
