B 90 Days SOAP: A promise for prosperity

Day 13 of the Bible in 90 Days

Scripture: Deuteronomy 5: 32-33

32So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. 33Walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.

Observation: Do just as the Lord instructs and do not deviate and all will go well for you.

Application: It is hard to keep from deviating. And yet I must try. God knows I cannot walk a perfect path, and, fortunately, He sent his son to take care of that for me. But it is still my responsibility to do my best in following as I have been commanded.

And if I don’t spend regular, quality and quantity time with the Lord in His word and in prayer, then how can I know what his commands are?

I have to stay in His Word so I know what is straight… and what is to the right and left.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for showing me again how important it is to know your Word and to spend time in your Word. Please continue to guide me and show me where I am slipping before I slip too far.

I want to serve you, not any other gods, not any other things, that stand in as gods.

Please, God, keep my heart focused where YOU want it. Help me to hear your commands and abide in them. And thank you for the promise of prosperity in that.

  7. I believe with all my heart that spending time with the Lord will lead to spiritual prosperity. But I don’t think material prosperity is promised to the Christian in the church age. In fact Jesus told us that “in the world we will have tribulation.” I think when we look at these Old Testament promises we need to read the context and see that they are for people who kept the entire Law. I am so very thankful to be “not under the law” but to be trusting in God’s grace, whatever troubles come my way.
