Day 16 of the Bible in 90 days
Scripture: Joshua 9: 14
The men of Israel sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the Lord.
Observation: The Israelites were considering a big decision and forgot to ask the Lord’s guidance.
Application: In this passage, the Israelites are being deceived by the Gibeonites. Forgetting to ask the Lord’s guidance, the Israelites do a bit of investigating on their own (not much, though) and make a decision that is not in line with God’s directives.
How often do I plow ahead, doing what I think (or want) to be right without asking for God’s direction? And what mistakes could have I avoided by stopping, praying, asking and really listening?
Prayer: Lord, thank you for this reminder to seek your direction rather than making my own decisions with you.
You will not lead me astray, but my ‘gut’ might.
You know just what I need, just what I have to offer and just what I should do. Please send up a red flag when I begin to stray… and keep me close to you, relying on you and not me.
