Day 33 of The Bible in 90 Days
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 30: 18-20
18Although most of the many people who came from Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar and Zebulun had not purified themselves, yet they ate the Passover, contrary to what is written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, “May the Lord, who is good, pardon everyone 19who sets his heart on seeking God– the Lord, the God of his fathers– even if he is not clean according to the rules of the sanctuary.” 20And the Lord heard Hezekiah and healed the people.
Observation: Many of the people who came to celebrate the Passover did not prepare properly and, consequently were unclean, according to scripture. Hezekiah asked the Lord to overlook this sin and still bless those whose hearts were on God. And the Lord did.
Application: Hezekiah asked for forgiveness of these people whose hearts were set on the Lord, even if they fell short in keeping the law. He recognized their short-comings, but didn’t want them to fall short of the glory of God.
I love seeing this forgiveness and outpouring of love in the Old Testament, as a hint of what is to come.
Prayer: Lord, thank you so much for your forgiveness of these people and of all people whose hearts are truly set on you.
Please soften the hearts of those puzzled by you or closed-hearted to you. Let them see your love and forgiveness and want to be a part of that.
Use me however you will, Lord, to share this message. And guide all those reading the Bible in 90 Days along with me to be used by you, too. Please help every single one of them to be touched by the messages you have selected for them individually and be moved according to your purpose. Guide us all as we continue to read, study, learn and grow together. Thank you, Lord for this opportunity to read together via the internet.
