Day 19 of the Bible in 90 Days
Scripture: 1 Samuel 2:8
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap;
he seats them with princes
and has them inherit a throne of honor.
Observation: The Lord will restore those in poverty to honor in Him
Application: Today’s reading held a few familiar stories, including that of Ruth, Boaz and Naomi, which I find to be beautiful.
But this verse in Samuel, in light of the earthquake in Haiti, really struck me this morning.
There are plenty of poor there in the dust and ashes, devastated like I hope to never fully understand. I can contribute to the rebuilding of structures and the health of the survivors. But the Lord is the only one who can really heal and lift all of those in poverty everywhere from destruction to glory with him.
What can I do to make sure that everyone devastated by poverty in any part of the world understands the gift offered to them in Jesus Christ? Yes, my husband and I contribute to organizations that reach out to the poor in the name of Jesus, but what else can I do?
What does He have in store for me to do?
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the promise of glory with you eternally. I have it pretty comfortable now, and of course I am looking forward to the time of pure glory and delight with you. But I really feel for those who are currently living in horrible circumstances. Reach out the them and let them know of hope in you and your promise to lift them from the dust and seat them with princes. And show me what I can do to share that love and promise to those who need to hear it. I am yours.
