B 90 Days SOAP: Rest on the Sabbath

Day 7 of the Bible in 90 Days

Scripture: Exodus 31:15

For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death.

Observation: Set aside the seventh day for rest and do not work on that day.

Application: I have written about this before and attempted to get all my ‘work’ done the 6 other days of the week so that I could recharge and reflect on Sundays. But I am not so good at that.

Yes, later in the bible we will learn that Jesus performs miracles on the Sabbath day , so there is some ‘work’ that is permitted.

However I am going to try to take baby steps and make this commitment: I will not blog on Sundays.

There will not be any new content on those days (unless it is previously scheduled) because I will spend the time focused on God and my family as best I can. I will certainly do my Bible reading. And I might even journal my SOAP observations in a notebook, but I am going to try my hardest to take Sundays as a break from blogging and blog reading.

Prayer: Lord, today’s reading is filled with lots of details and laws and specifics. There are bound to be lots of questions for those reading… for the first time or for the 17th time. Please, Lord, speak to each of us individually and give us what you want us to take from these passages. Give us the understanding we need and let us move on with the rest.

Thank you for this reminder to relax, recharge and refocus. Please guide me and strengthen me to hold true to this recommitment to your Sabbath. And guide me in honoring you in all days.

Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to serve you. Guide me, please, in serving you only in a way that is pleasing to you.

This is what I heard today!
God gifted specific people with the skills and artisty to make His tabernacle!! :)

  2. My husband is a minister, so Sunday is a really busy day for us. Other than that, I really try to make Sunday a more relaxed day. It still ends up being the most exhausting day of the week!

  3. Keeping God a Priority. Have a great Sunday!

  5. We’ve always tried to set the Lord’s Day apart as a day of rest. We eat a simple breakfast so there are not many dishes to clean and although we have a “feast” for lunch, we do all the food preparation the day before.

I’ve never posted on Sunday, because of precisely this, until the 90 Day Challenge. I now write a check-in post for those participating in the 90 Day Challenge on Saturday and have it scheduled to post on Sunday. I’m not doing anything on Sunday, but perhaps I’m encouraging others to get online on Sunday. Have to ask my hubby about this one.

  7. We have found many simple ways to honor the Lord’s Day. Our Jewish friends light a candle the night before Sabbath, so that’s a custom our family also adopted. Saturday before supper, we light a candle and ask the Lord to cleanse and prepare our hearts to celebrate Him in a special way the following day. We save housework and blogging for other days, and use the time for encouraging others. Besides focusing our attention on God and others, it gives the week/life a healthy rhythm.

  8. Funny, I’ve been thinking about this too. It’s not as easy as I thought it would be. I suppose that’s why God knew it needed to be one of His top ten :-)

I love how you prayed “Give us the understanding we need and let us move on with the rest.” That has been the hardest thing for me to “move on”.

  9. I love how God reminds them in Deut 5 ( also the ten commandments) that they were slaves in Egypt. But God redeemed them so now they have the CHOICE to rest because they are no longer bound in chains.

  10. Thank you for your posting. I will join you with no postings on Sundays or reading blogs too! Thanks for the inspiration. My reading thus far today and my thoughts:
