So, my dear Bible in 90 Days readers, how is it coming now that we are launching into week 3? I hope you are doing well and I can’t wait to read about your progress. I pray for each of you as I respond to your comments and I love that time.
From experience in hosting this online and in person, I would guess that for some of you, the reading has formed into a great habit and for others it is getting tougher and tougher to fit everything into your schedule that you would like to. If you are having trouble, think of what can be set aside until October. How you can re-work your schedule to meet your priorities? I wrote this post about getting frustrated and keeping up during our last online read. Swing by and give it a read if you think you need a little push.
For those of you finding it easier, what have you moved or given up to spend more time with God?
If you are up to date, you should have read through page 180 in the Bible in 90 Days Bible or to Deuteronomy 34:12.
At the end of this post I will invite to share your progress with us. Please leave a comment letting us know where you are in the reading, whether you are caught up, racing to catch up or even feeling a bit frustrated. For more on check-in posts, please see this post. Bloggers, you are invited to share your progress with a comment or a link to your own blog post in the linky.
But first we have a few words from Wanda, who has truly embraced this challenge for quite some time. But I’ll let her tell you all about that…
My name is Wanda Shepherd, I live in northern Alberta, Canada, and I was pretty excited when Amy asked me to guest post on Mom’s Toolbox! Thanks, Amy! I have been a huge fan of reading the Bible from cover-to-cover ever since I became a follower of Jesus Christ in 1981. I am currently on my 46th reading, and am finding that participating in the Bible in 90 Days Challenge has significantly enhanced my reading experience. A community adventure is always more fun than flying solo!
One of the things that I really like about reading the Bible through time after time — and why I keep on reading this way — is because I like having a working familiarity with Scripture. When someone mentions a passage, I generally know where it is, because I’ve read it so many times.
I think it’s also helped me develop a more complete and mature theology, because I know what the whole Bible says, instead of just parts of John or Psalms or Proverbs.
Because I’ve read the Bible through so many times, I find that I can quote passages from memory without having deliberately memorized anything. A terrific by-product of all that reading!
This has always been something that I have been passionate and motivated about, and so I find that reading the Bible is its own reward. I like finishing my daily reading, and I like completing a cycle.
But the main reason why I love reading the Bible through is because it is God’s revelation. That revelation is progressive as God reveals more and more about Himself, His ways and His plans. If God says something in John, you have to know that it’s not something new, it’s built upon what He has said and done before, from Genesis on.
It’s an amazing Book, because He is an amazing God, and I look forward to sharing our great adventure of reading through it together!
Inspired? I sure am!!
You can read more from Wanda at her blog, In Search of Manna.

Yeah! I finally caught up. I even finished the reading for today! Yahooo!! I’m finding that carrying my Bible around with me and taking advantage of moments throughout the day is really helping.
I’m a day and a bit behind after the weekend. Things have been a little crazy around here and I got caught up in trying to finish another book I was in the middle of. In general the reading has been getting a little easier and I am definitely enjoying it (most of the time) but I let myself get behind so hopefully I can catch up this week. We leave for vacation in a few days so we’ll see if that makes things easier or harder. Thanks for keeping us accountable Amy!
Hi everyone, I am about 3 days behind but working to catch up tonight. Lev and Num is hard but will push thru.
Can I ask for prayers? My husband of 26 years has walked away from our marriage due to midlife crisis. He is seeking a divorce that I don’t want. I would like a complete reconciled and restored marriage if this is God’s plan. I think it is since he hates Divorce.
Our first court date is 8-2-10.
thank you so much
I’m still on track and still very excited about this journey! I make it a point to read every day, well, I did skip one day, but made it up the next. If I know I have something one evening I know I need to read ahead. Or if it’s “hair day” I know I won’t have time in the morning so all reading will be in the evening. I’m taking this commitment seriously so I plan around it. I hope I can keep that up. I believe it is something to do a little bit each day and not cram two or three times a week. That’s just not my way.
I’m all caught up, and it feels glorious! I got a little behind while volunteering at church camp and had to work really hard to get caught up this weekend. I’ve learned that one day is manageable, but reading three days in one days is quite a strain on me. This will definitely serve as motivation to keep current. If I have another event coming up where I think I’ll get behind, I’m going to try to read ahead before the event.
I’m loving this experience!
My daughter (13y) and I are both right on track.
I got a couple days behind over the weekend, because I haven’t been feeling well. I spent today getting all caught up!
I’m mostly caught up, though doing a slightly different “plan” as we’re listening to an audio version. Poor Richard Dreyfus doesn’t get a break in Deuteronomy… he’s reading virtually the entire book (he’s voicing Moses)
Trying to get a handle on what to do the next two weeks, as my oldest two will be off camping. I guess if we listen to an extra 15 minutes each day during the week, then we can take Saturday off entirely.
We’ll start that tomorrow, not today…
I just finished Deuteronomy, and have begun Joshua. I really have trouble putting the Bible down at the end of my reading. This is getting fun!
Wow I cant believe we’re already on week 3! This is just flying by! I have to admit I’m a day and 1/2 behind right now. I plan to finish getting caught up tonight when I get home. Last week I struggled a bit with Numbers and getting through it. I really had to force myself to read parts of it. I am loving Deuteronomy and enjoying writing down verses that touch my heart as I read through the pages.
A bit behind but catching up : )
All caught up. Just need 3 minutes to catch up the blog. :)
I am halfway through yesterday’s reading, hoping to be completely caught up by tomorrow!!! The weekends are a little tough, just because the whole family is here!
I have begun Day 11 and have time this week to catch up. I have so enjoyed reading the Bible in this way. I feel as though I am getting a more clear picture of the amazing story and history told in God’s Word.
I’m way behind, but working on slowly catching up. Still trying to find a time for reading without interruptions every two minutes from all the children. If I wait until they’re all in bed, then I usually can’t stay awake!
Got a little behind this weekend, but should be caught up by tonight.
I’m completely current on my reading and I’m thrilled about it! lol Leviticus was a little difficult to get through but I made it.
Ps–I was baptized yesterday!
I haven’t finished today’s reading but otherwise I’m right on track.
I drove out of town yesterday, so I am reading half of yesterday’s reading along with today’s reading. I am confident that I will finish. Since I am not home, the distractions are few, and I can sit and read for a great deal of time. I do not have access to the internet, unless we go to the library, where I am now, so I will miss you all tonight, but I will be praying at 9:00 EST. Love to everyone and God bless!!!!
My little brother was married on Saturday and I wasn’t able to finish the reading with all our family time. I spent a good deal of time yesterday before church and later in the day catching up on both days reading. It was worth getting behind to celebrate not only his marriage but his life that he almost lost 2 years ago!
We went away for a family weekend last weekend and I got a bit behind. Just finished Day 13 reading, and will be caught up before the weekend.
At one point this week I was 3 full days behind! I’ve been moving this past weekend and ended up doing a lot of listening to the online readings while unpacking. I was actually able to pay pretty good attention while doing so. I got up this morning and started reading again, and listened some at work today. When I get home from work today I plan to read again until the tweet up, and with any luck I will be caught up, by then. Here’s hoping!
Also, what I’m reading is finally starting to ‘sink in’ and it feels like one continuing story instead of a bunch mish-mashed together, and I look forward to going back to it. Thank you for the support!
I am behind, way behind, but I did try and make contact again with all my mentorees and most of my new friends that have e-mailed back are up-to-date and getting a lot out the reading which encourages me to try and get on track!
I am amazingly still caught up on the reading…although we faced a miscarriage this week, and some tired children, God was there…in the midst of a trying time, I still was able to find some good chunks to get the 12 pages done every day. God is good.
So far so good! Still staying ahead! May be late for tonight’s tweet-up as our VBS ends at 9:00pm EST. God bless!
Well I am caught up as of today! I was doing pretty good then Friday came and I had a day off, a day of running here, there and everywhere! I started but then did not finish the day’s reading. But between last night and today, I was able to finish and am proud to say I am on track. I continue to learn so very much with this challenge. I find myself taking notes and wondering if others have the same questions. Then I see a comment on Twitter and sometimes even a link that answers my question! It has been wonderful to read along with everyone, participate in last week’s Twitter chat and encourage everyone. Hope everyone is having a great week!
I’ve almost finished Deuteronomy–will have it finished (Lord willing) by the end of the day. Weekends are my most difficult times to stay on schedule, so I’m making up for yesterday. I try to have my reading done earlier in the day than this! :-)
Praise the Lord I have stayed caught up this week. I’m am so enjoying studying the Bible this way, I feel like I am learning so much more than I would have studying it over a longer period of time. I’m also excited that I have made it past the spot where I have given up in previous attempts.
I too am still behind. I am not giving up, just trying to find the best time for me to get my reading in! I go on vacation next week so I should have lots of free time to read and hopefully read ahead!
Loving the daily readings…..I’ve always studied different books taking them apart verse by verse…..but this venture is like ready the story of the Godhead from beginning to end. It’s simply AMAZING!!!! God is truely blessing me. Thank you Amy for your dedication in this mission field you have been called to!
Aside from today’s reading, I’m caught up. So is my husband! I’m particularly thankful to report that this week, as we’ve had 6 extra people in our house this week visiting, including six month old twins! There has been no down time, to say the least! Praise God that He’s provided the time we’ve needed to get the reading done. Can’t believe after today we’re done with the Pentateuch! I feel so victorious already!!
P.S. I formerly blogged as Melissa Sue from A Wonderful Life. I’ve privatized that blog and started up this new one. : )
Wow, I can’t believe how far we’ve come! Just looking at my checklist today blew my mind…that’s what I wrote about for my update. :)
Hope I can make the Twitter party; I have ladies’ Bible study tonight, so maybe…..
I’m all caught up! I’m really enjoying my daily reading…I just squeeze it in whenever I can…a few chapters here and few chapters there…it’s been great!
I will be caught up once I read for today :) I am just so thankful to be out of Numbers! Friday I was 2 days ahead so I didn’t read this weekend. I wish I had because I liked the feeling of being ahead. I find it much easier to get my reading done during the week days. It is harder for me on the weekends.
I am still enjoying listening to reading during and after I have read it! After I read for the day I listen to it while I quilt.
I am caught up and just finished todays reading! Im finding it easier to fit in everyday! I do it during my boys naptime and turn the tv off and put aside my computer and just focus on Gods Word!! I think the hardest time I have with the reading is on the weekends when my hubby is home but im making myself put that time aside to do it and its working!!!
[…] you haven’t checked in this week yet, please do so by visiting the check in post before 2 a.m. Monday night/ Tuesday morning and leaving a comment or linking a post from your own […]
I am caught up up until today. Only have read 2 pages in todays reading. I Am really enjoying the listen while you read option on the web site, but the site is down today. Boo! I Am leaving Thursday for vacation and hope to get way ahead while sitting on the beach.
well I was ahead before the weekend started– now I am about half a day behind. but my desire to read is growing every day and I am not stressed about catching up — simply because I KNOW I will make the time! I can hardly believe how far we have come already and how God is teaching me new things out of portions of Scripture I NEVER would have expected. love it!
I haven’t read today’s reading yet but am caught up otherwise. It’s actually much easier than I could have imagined and having the 90 Day Bible right on my iTouch is the secret to my success. I can read whenever I have the chance and the only thing I’ve really given up is extra Facebook time. ;-)
Doing well! Into Judges (on day 18)!
I just finished my reading for today. This weekend was more challenging than the previous weeks had been. I have worked my reading into the weekly routine, but the weekend tend to be less structured and more challenging. I was able to catch up before bed last night, though, and have great momentum heading into week 3.
Up – to – Date and I am enjoying the reading!
I’m not so happy to report that I’ve fallen behind but I am determined to get caught up today! I’ve been so busy and I haven’t been feeling well and I’m finding it increasingly difficult to get through this part of the Bible. I finally drudged through Numbers and I’m on Deuteronomy (sp?) now which seems to be easier to read. I’ll get there and I’ll get caught up!! I have faith!! :-)
I’ve been reading every morning … I receive the “assignment” on my Blackberry and try to read before I even go downstairs. I’ve asked God to gift me with a hunger for His Word… He’s doing that!
I’m close to being up to date on my reading. I find it’s easier to pay attention if I’m just listening to the Bible and not reading at the same time.
Hello There,
I’m happy to report that amazingly I am still caught up through today’s reading and I will finish that when I get home from work this evening. Have a great week.
I’m actually 1/2 a day ahead!!!! I was starting to worry at the beginning of this week. Leviticus and Numbers were very hard to get through. I’m in the process of trying to read a day and a half to get ahead for when my mom comes to visit. I haven’t seen her in a year and we have some day trips and things planned and I want to be able to enjoy the little bit of time I get with her.
Thank you for the encouragement!
I’m still behind, but still hanging in there. Yesterday was the first day I didn’t get anything read. I will get caught up!
Hi Everyone,
I’m also behind and had been feeling overwhelmed by it. I’m glad I hoped on today because I know I do want to do this and feel inspired to read about everyone else pushing through and the beauty of knowing scripture holistically.
I’ll keep pursuing and grabbing my bible every chance I get!
Thankfully caught up! Sundays are a challenge to get the reading in but I made it!
