Bible in 90 Days: Meet Your Mentors, Part Two

Today I am sharing a bit about four more of the Bible in 90 Days/ Blogging Through the Bible in 90 Days mentors. Each of these women is a B90 grad and is looking forward to help you also read the entire Word of God.

On a housekeeping note, if you are signed up to read with us beginning Monday, July 5, and you submitted your email address properly on the Google document, you will hear from one of the mentors or myself by the second check-in on Monday, July 12. Please let me know if you do not.

And yes, if you would like to read with us you are definitely welcome to sign up.

And if you are a B90 grad, you are definitely welcome to still serve as a mentor. Please send me a note and I’ll happily put you to work encouraging others to read the Bible. (Mentors do not have to participate in the reading again.)

Okay, on with the introductions…

Tiffany

My name is Tiffany, I am 28 years old and from Hawesville, KY.  I work as a pharmacy technician at a small hospital near my home.  I have been married to my husband for almost 6 years and we have a 1 year old son, Jaren.  I also have a 9 year old step-son Hunter.  I found out about the Bible in 90 Days when searching for couponing websites and my cousin referred me to Keeping the Kingdom First.  Then I found Amy’s blog and saw the Bible in 90 Days course that was staring January 1st.  I had always thought about reading the Bible and considered myself pretty knowledgeable but honestly I knew nothing!  Those 90 days were a struggle not just with the reading but with the personal demons that were revealed as I read!  Thank God for sending us his message and I continue to struggle daily I am just a sinner saved by grace, but hopefully reading again this time and helping others will open my eyes so that I may see even clearer God’s purpose for my life!

Kristin

My name is Kristin and I am a married stay-at-home mom with two boys ages 5 and 2.  I was challenged by an older lady at my church to read through the entire Bible and was pleased to see the info about blogging through the Bible in 90 Days around Christmas last year on a blog I frequent.  I decided it was definitely worth a try.

What an amazing, challenging, frustrating, encouraging and life-changing experience. I was thrilled to have met a goal of mine but much more than that, I was encouraged by how the Lord touched my heart over those three months.  It made me excited to see how the Lord would work through me as I was challenged to throw off some of my conventional views of my life, choices and of God, to have my children in the Word more, to take him up on his challenge to care for orphans and the fatherless, to practice more hospitality and giving of myself unselfishly, and just to live a life more Christ-centered and less Kristin-centered.  So here I am in one of the ways I’m choosing to live that out – by being a mentor to others and helping them to have the incredible experience of reading the Bible cover to cover in 90 days.

Kristin blogs at The Solomon Story.

Kay

My name is Kay.  I’m a married mom of two boys – Andy, 21, a college senior, and Alex, 17, a high school senior.  My husband, Gary, is a freelance writer and owner of Schenkel Communications.  We reside in Urbana, Ohio.  I work at the Champaign County Library and love reading.  In my free time, I’m knitting or reading.  A lifelong member of the Urbana United Methodist Church, I’m active in the children’s ministry and the United Methodist Women.

In January 2008, I used a daily reading Bible because I wanted to read through the Bible in a year.  It took me 18 months but I finished.  Because the Bible I used had a reading each day from the Old Testament, the New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs, I still didn’t feel like I had the Big Picture.  When I heard about the Bible in 90 Days program on Mom’s Toolbox, I felt God draw me to it.  It was an amazing experience and really brought alive for me the exciting times written about in the Bible.

I always started my day with an Upper Room devotion complete with scripture but then the rest of my day was spent reading the latest best-seller from the library.  When I started the Bible in 90 days program, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t read anything else each day until my reading assignment was completed.  That worked well for me and sometimes when I brought my Bible to work to finish reading at lunch, I got an opportunity to share what I was doing with my co-workers.  I know your life and your walk with Christ will be enriched by reading the Bible in 90 Days.

Jana

I’m Jana, and I’m the homeschooling mom of three rowdy boys (ages 7, 5, and almost 3). I’m also the wife of Dan to whom I’ve been married almost 10 years (August 19th). We live north of Seattle and are very active in our church.

The first time I read through with B90, I was determined to finish even though I never had read through the Bible entirely.  I have a seminary degree and have read all of the books but never straight through. What a blessing I had been missing!

Our church (a small one) lost 7 people this year. One of those was my very good friend, Lisa, to a brain aneurysm, and the night she was taken off life support, I read through the book of Revelation (March 28th).  What a joy and a comfort God’s Word is to us when we let it be.

I had initially planned to just mentor this go around, but I find that when my heart is wounded, it is easy to isolate myself from the Lord.  With Lisa’s death, it has been hard for me to dig into God’s Word and to spend time with Him. I’ve not allowed Him to give me that solace through His word.  I’ve decided that I need to read again and to encourage others to do the same.  On the days that it seems it can’t be done are the days that we need it most!

I blog (so inconsistently) at www.NoPinkForMe.blogspot.com

Pretty amazing, huh? I am so excited that each of these ladies has decided to mentor this session. Please come back tomorrow and I’ll introduce you to even more of our amazing mentors.

Please consider praying for each of these women who is giving of herself to help others grow closer to the Lord. I know they would appreciate that and the peace and protection they will gain from your prayers.

And while you are at it, please consider praying for all of the participants in this challenge. Please pray that the Lord prepares their hearts and minds for the incredible 90 days to come. Pray that each participant clearly hears the Lord in his or her reading and grows closer to the Lord with each passing day and each verse read.

Thanks, y’all! Get ready…  we’ve got a life-changing experience ahead of us!!
