Blogging Through the Gospels: Luke 1: 1-38

Guest SOAP post Erin of Home with the Boys.

The reading for Monday is Luke 1:1-38.

I had the joy of meeting Erin online when she read the Bible in 90 Days with us on MomsToolbox. Then I got to meet her in person at Relevant last Fall and was thrilled when she served as a mentor for Blogging through the Bible in 90 Days for the next session. Here is what she heard in Monday’s reading:

Speechless

Scripture: Luke 1:17

And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Observation:
The expectations for John were set pretty high, even before he was born. Can you imagine being the parent hearing the words of the angel?
“YOUR child will change peoples’ hearts.”
“YOUR child, that you never thought you would even have, will prepare the way for the Lord.”
Yikes. That is some intense news right there.
But, on the other hand, to know the impact your child will have on the world for good before they are born?
Priceless.
I would be speechless WITHOUT the angel’s touch!

Application:
I need to start setting my expectations a little higher. Not for what my children or I can do, but for what GOD can do through us.
God took an elderly, childless couple and gave them a child who would literally make way for the Lord to come in the flesh – He uses anyone and everyone to touch the world.
I just need to stop putting Him in a box – He WILL do great things through each of us.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus,
You are Lord and Savior of ALL I don’t give you enough credit and I come to you humbly to lay this attitude at Your feet. I know you have great things in store for our family and I thank you in advance for what I know you are going to do. Help us walk by faith, with confidence in You and with great expectation of the marvelous works You will do through us – all for YOUR glory. We love you Lord – everything we have and are is Yours.
Amen.
Erin is at Home with the Boys in Nebraska after five years as an elementary music teacher. Her Savior, her med-student husband and her two lively boys are the loves of her life – and the inspiration for her blog!

What about you? What did you see and hear in your reading of this first part of Luke?

This chapter holds a key to parenting–look and see what Zechariah and Elizabeth did as parents….

    1. Oh thanks.. I’m going to go read this passage again with a new perspective and see what I find.

      1. Ha, Amy! I got you to go take a second look! Not a bad thing, of course, to look again at the Bible! :) We all know that YOU have been responsible for getting ME to look LOTS more at the Bible! ;)

  3. Are we as willing as Mary to let God do marvelous and wonderful things through us??
