Blogging Through the Gospels: Mark 1

That is Why I have Come

The reading for Friday is Mark 1.

When it is time to read, please start first by praying and thanking God for His many blessings. Be specific.

Record your thank you’s on paper or on the computer.

Next present your requests to Him. Ask Him for whatever you want and need. As you do, record your requests and questions on paper or on the computer.

Third, ask Him to guide you in your reading, so that you will hear his message for you today.

After you read, record your SOAP observations and then listen for three minutes. Set a timer and just  listen to what he might be sharing. Don’t ask. Don’t thank. Just listen. (You can pray more after you listen, if you like.)

Here is what I heard in the reading:

That is why I have come

Scripture: Mark 1:38

Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else– to the nearby villages– so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”

Observation:

Jesus knew exactly why He was on the earth and was focused on doing just that.

Application:

I am so easily distracted by new projects. There are so many things I want to do and do well. By  taking on so many, though, I cannot do the one I am called to do as effectively.

I want to do a better job of listening to God and hearing his guidance so I can recognize and pursue what He has called me to do and release the rest.

Prayer:

Lord, please show me where it is you want my focus to be. Make it clear what I should do and what I should overlook and possibly encourage others to do, but not do myself.

Show me what I need to know of your plan for me so that I may pursue that and not destructive dreams which look like good paths but aren’t the path you have planned for me.

End this desire in me to do it all. Instead, show me what you have planned for me and guide me in pursuit of that alone.

I want to follow your plan, not my many-pronged one.

Thank you, Lord, for your patience with me.

What about you? What did you see and hear in your reading of Mark 1?

How do you stay focused on His plan for your life?

I talked more about how God experienced a full human life, that He can relate to us in a tangible way and we can go to Him for anything.

  2. Healing – Mark 1:40-41

If I am NOT *healed* does it mean that I don’t believe or that He doesn’t have compassion? I don’t think so …

Come, Follow Me. And the disciples went at once. That is what impressed me this morning. I want to respond to Jesus the same way.

  4. I just read and blogged about Mark 1….this is going to be such an interesting gospel to read! I really like how it is fast-paced. Today I focused on whether or not we are doing what God wants us to.

A tough day. Trusting in my Lord and Savior to get me through the trials in front of me.
