Blogging Through the Gospels: Matthew 22

The reading for Tuesday is Matthew 22.

When it is time to read, please start first by praying and thanking God for His many blessings. Be specific.

Next present your requests to Him. Ask Him for whatever you want and need.

Third, ask Him to guide you in your reading, so that you will hear his message for you today.

After you read, record your SOAP observations and then listen for three minutes. Set a timer and just  listen to what he might be sharing. Don’t ask. Don’t thank. Just listen. (You can pray more after you listen, if you like.)

Here is what I heard in the reading:

Scripture: Matthew 22: 2-3

2“The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. 3He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.

Observation:

God sends us invitations to be with Him, but do we respond?

Application:

Weddings and funerals seem to trump all in terms of scheduling. And a royal wedding? My goodness… can you imagine anyone missing one of those ‘just because?’ Or missing out at all if there isn’t a possible way to make it work?

God wants to hang out with us… for eternity and right now. He wants us at his party. He wants us right now, day to day and forever.

And what could possibly be more important than responding to his invitation to be with Him, to listen to Him and to share with Him?

I know my schedule gets tight and I can’t seem to fit in all that I want to do and sometimes all that I should do. But, by being intentional I CAN fit in the very most important thing.. time with my Father.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for this reminder to respond to all of your invitations to be with you.

Please forgive me when I push you aside because I am running late or because my day got off to a start or finish I didn’t expect or didn’t plan for.  Please guide me in finding you and responding to you even in the busiest of times. Thank you for your forgiveness and thank you for continuing to seek me and invite me.

I love you , Lord. I love it when we start our days together. Please keep me close to you and continue to guide me. Thank you for always inviting me and always showing up.

  1. Today I really liked Jesus’ reply to which is the greatest commandment. All I can say is that if we DO give God everything we got and DO love him with 100% of ourselves, the results are amazing!

  2. I could NOT narrow this down to ONE verse, although they did tie together, so I wrote on 2. Matthew 22:14 & Matthew 22:37-39.

There are a lot of people who believe they are “good Christian people” who do not know Christ and will not be given eternal life.

Our greatest call is the call to love!

I ALMOST chose the same verse as you, Amy, on the wedding feast. But when I read through again, I also really liked Jesus’ reply to the Pharisees on what was the greatest commandment.
