If you are reading the Proverbs in 31 Days with me, today (Tuesday) we are reading Proverbs 15.
Here is what I heard:
Scripture: Proverbs 15: 1
A gently answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger
Observation:
Respond calmly and with consideration even when anger is rising.
Application:
Sitting here writing this, I know it is so, so very true. Harsh words just inflame things. They don’t solve anything.
But when I am in the heat of the moment, it can be so hard to keep a level head and remember to respond gently.
I need to remember to respond gently. Even if I disagree with what is being said.
Prayer:
Lord, please be with me when I get wound up and angry, frustrated or in whatever situation might drive me to want to respond in harsh words rather than gentle answers. I know a gentle answer will turn away wrath… please just encourage me to pause and remember that and put it into practice more often.
What about you?
What struck you today?
And how do you respond when wrath is brewing?
