I don’t know about you, but when I bake, my fingers often just happen to fall into the batter or frosting or dip for just one lick. How else could I better slide the rest of it in there without my fingers?
(Never mind that a spatula would do the trick, my fingers are right here.)
Most often, this helpful taste leads to another, which leads to another and then, well, you get the picture.
And of course it all starts over again when the cookies come out of the oven.
But I think I’ve finally got this one licked.
I stash gum in the kitchen. And when I pull out the mixing bowls, I pull out a slice of gum and suit up. I don’t just need the protection an apron can give me. I need to keep my mouth occupied, too, and gum can do the trick.
It also works for curbing unhealthy snacking at meetings. Before I reach for a lovingly-made muffin or other treat I don’t need to eat, I stick a piece of gum in my mouth. I’ll admit, it doesn’t always work, but it sure has helped. And by not always giving in, I can make exceptions for the really good stuff and not feel so bad.
