Creative training for body and soul

So I’m training supposed to be training for the BP MS 150, a two-day, 180-mile bicycle ride from Houston to Austin that takes place in April.

Last year was my first attempt and it was an absolutely amazing experience. I trained like the dickens for it, in hopes of having a successful ride. And I did. Even with the very strong headwind.

Well, my training this year has been a little lackluster. But I am working on it.

For the past few weeks my Tuesday riding buddy has been unable to ride with me (the flu is plaguing her house!) so I’ve tried to come up with a few alternate solutions.

Today I set my laptop on the bar counter and set up my stationery trainer in front of it and watched the sermon I missed on Sunday while I cycled for 45 minutes. It was a great sermon and a great workout! After that I did a few dips off the fireplace’s hearth and then did a few ab exercises. Although I wasn’t on the road, at least I still got a pretty good workout in… And my soul got a good workout, too.

I’m thinking of downloading an audio Bible and cycling to that sometimes, too. Any thoughts or suggestions on which to download? A local radio station is promoting Faith Comes by Hearing, so that’s what got me thinking.

  1. Hi Amy,
At FaithComesByHearing.com you can download a free Audio Bible for your daily Bible listening. This ministry has about 10 English versions and 350 other languages. I have the NIV myself and enjoy listening on my daily commute.
They also have daily podcasts too.

  2. The only audio Bible I have is an NIV my Max McLean. It’s dramatized, which isn’t bad, although he does sound like William Shatner in some areas.

I also recommend the Revive Our Hearts podcast. Good, good, stuff.
