Today’s reading is Luke 4. Here is what I heard:
Scripture: Luke 4:42
At daybreak Jesus went to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them.
Observation:
Jesus knew he needed to retreat and he knew he needed to move on to help others, even though the crowds did not want him to go.
Application:
I need to take a step back more often and really listen and follow God’s direction for me. Unfortunately I can let myself get caught up in people-pleasing, which distracts me from His plan.
This crowd Jesus faced was asking for his help, which sounds like a great serving opportunity. But He knew he needed to move on and help elsewhere. He had the big picture in mind.
Prayer:
Lord, please guide me in discerning your Word from so many messages I get.
Help me to follow you confidently and not worry so much about the crowd.
Guide me in finding that solitude, protecting it and using it well to listen to you, and then guide me following your plan alone, keeping me from distraction from others.
I often wonder how often Satan uses things that looks good to weaken my focus, distract me and keep me from doing what you really intend. Please give me the clarity to see what you have in mind and the confidence to proceed boldly in that direction.
Thank you, Lord.
What about you?
How do you protect that solitude and stay focused?
What else did you hear in Luke 4 today?
