Go ahead: Be a nag

Scripture: Luke 18: 1

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to illustrate their need for constant prayer and to show them that they must never give up.

Observation: Jesus wanted it to be clear that we should pray over and over and over and over… We should not let our prayers rest. (For more of the story, read the whole passage: Luke 18 1-8.)

Application: It can be a little irritating to me when one of my children asks about the same thing repeatedly. It often makes me consider saying “no” just to prove the point that they should ask once and then be patient.

But that is not what God instructs us to do in regards to prayer. Evidently he wants to hear from us. Repeatedly. He wants us to ask and ask and ask. He wants us to go to him and express our wishes. And express them again until we get an answer. He doesn’t want us to give up after one polite request.

Prayer: As a human parent I must first say “Wow, you are an amazing, patient and loving God to want to hear our cries of prayer over and over and over again.”

Thank you for wanting to listen to my requests. And thank you for wanting to meet me in prayer. Please keep me from being polite” and show me the way to being completely reliant, petitioning repeatedly and not praying just a few times and letting things go, as I often do. Thank you for wanting to listen.

So, on that note, here are a few things I’d like to talk with you about….

This may sound silly but I try to change my prayers because I think He gets tired of hearing the same thing over. And after 50+ years you’d think He would be tired of hearing most of the same stuff.

  2. Just today I said to my hubby “I need to ask you to do something, but I don’t want to sound like a nag”!!!

That plus your wisdom today really put my prayers (and sometimes lack of prayer) into perspective!

Thanks Amy, you are always such a blessing to me! Now I must go pray!
