For many, reading the Bible in 90 days is the most intense, fast-paced study of the Bible they have ever done. I remember when I finished it the first time, part of me wanted a quick resting break, part of me wanted to start right over and do it again and most of me just wanted to know what to do next.
Suddenly, my daily devotional guide I used before the 90-day challenge was no longer enough and I didn’t know how to keep myself in the Word.
I found two other Bible reading plans that I use to keep me in the Word when I am not reading the Bible in 90 days. I can use either one as my devotional reading and prayer time and always hear the Lord talking to me.
Either I read through one chapter of Proverbs a day for a month or I use this one-year Bible reading plan as a guide to my reading.
I do not follow the one-year guide to read the Bible in a year, as I have already ready the Bible, cover to cover, several times. Instead I use this year schedule to guide me on what to read each day. If I miss a day, I skip that day’s reading and move on.
(If you would like a bookmark which lists this quarter’s reading schedule on it, please send me an email with your US address and I will be happy to mail one to you for free. When the quarter is coming to an end, email me again and I’ll send you the next quarter, again for free.)
Part of the key for me in hearing the Lord speak to me is to take the time before and after I read to pray and ask God to show what he wants me to hear that day. Then I read and use the SOAP method, which you have seen on MomsToolbox for each reading.
I highly recommend you try the SOAP method in a journal for yourself. (To find out more about SOAP, please follow this link.) It is truly amazing how much more clearly I hear God when I organize my thoughts that way.
I have used also used SOAP for other Bible studies when I wanted to do a topical study of the Bible. I once read and prayed through The Power of a Praying Wife using SOAP. It was a bit tougher to come up with my reading each day, even using the study guide, so when I did that, I set aside 10 minutes of listening time to determine what verses from the guide and book God wanted me to focus on with each day’s reading.
There are lots of excellent studies out there waiting for you to explore them, with lots of opportunities for growth. I cannot decide what is best for you. But I can (and will) pray for you and encourage you through MomsToolbox.com to help you find the best next-step for your study.
After reading the Bible in 90 Days, please do not be disappointed with yourself if you don’t remember everything you read. This program, as I said at the beginning, will not make you a Biblical scholar, but it will bring you much closer to our Lord and Creator, as I hope you’ve experienced.
I’ve read it five times through in 90 days-ish. And I still have lots of questions. But now I feel much more confident in knowing He will answer what I need to know when I really need to know it.
If you aren’t in a group of real-live people you can see and touch and talk to about your relationship with Jesus Christ in person, I would strongly suggest that you find a way to find that group of prayer, study and accountability partners. There is only so much support you can gain over the internet. If you need a church home, I would be delighted to help you begin your search.
If you’ve learned and grown through this experience, I’d love for you to consider and pray about serving as a mentor for our next online community which will begin reading together July 5. For our next group, these mentors do not need to be going through the reading again, but will check up on and pray for the same 4-6 readers each week, as well as help facilitate the weekly Tweet-Ups which will remain on Monday nights. If you are interested in serving in this way, please email me at amy at momstoolbox dot com and tell me why you would like to serve in this way.
Through the next few months I would love to feature blog posts from readers (bloggers and non-bloggers alike) talking about their experience with the Blogging Thru the Bible in 90 Days program. If you would like to contribute a post to be used, please email me. I love reading your words and emails about this and I know you could only encourage others to read His Word, too.
This has been quite a journey and I cannot thank you enough for trusting me to join and read along with me. Thank you for this honor and your trust.
I pray that you will continue in His Word long after this incredible journey ends.
PS: I’ll be reading and SOAP-ing through Proverbs in April. I’d love to have you join me!
