Last week I was in sunny California to judge wines at the California State Fair.
The weather was GORGEOUS and this was my rental car:
I was there on business, but I sure mixed in some fun (not that judging wines isn’t a lot of fun in itself!), zipping around with the top down. Then, on Friday, when I left Sacramento and drove to Palo Alto, Menlo Park and San Francisco, you better believe I relished my drive— that was me with the tunes blaring and the wind blowing through my hair. (Thankful again for the recent shorter haircut!!)
So what does this have to do with my travel tip?
I’m a member of National Rental Car’s loyalty club, so when I book, not only do I not have to wait in line at the counter, but I also get to pick any car on the aisle, rather than being assigned to one. Yes, I’m a pretty frequent renter, but every aisle could hold the gem you are looking for. Sometimes that’s a massive SUV, as when I’m with the kids and we have tons of luggage, and sometimes it’s that adorable Miata.
When you join a loyalty program for a car rental company, hotel, airline and more, you might get free wi-fi, a priority lane for check-in, free water bottles in your room, or any other sort of amenity, regardless of how ‘loyal’ you are and what type of business it is. Joining the program helps you to begin collecting points in the event you ever want to redeem them, too.
The only thing you lose is, typically, space in your email inbox– but those emails they send you MIGHT bring a treasure some day at just the right time.
I’m a loyalty club joiner– because you never know what treasures they may bring. And I always like a treasure!
