Let me start right out by saying this: I am NOT an audiophile.
That being said, I hate bad sound quality when it comes to music. I’d rather listen to something at a lower volume than listen to distorted music and my ears often hurt when people share music on their phone at a volume that the music just sounds, well, awful. Ugh, that bugs me.
(Thanks for hanging in there for my rant. You didn’t know I had it in me, did ya?)
Last fall, at Music City Eats, I was introduced to Klipsch and their absolutely amazing earbuds and portable speakers.
I was looking for a pair of noise canceling earbuds at the time and certainly didn’t expect to find them at a food and wine festival. And yet I did, and I found something even better.
I found a portable speaker that travels not just all over my house with me, but also all over the world with me. And it has fantastic sound at all sorts of volumes (Halleluja!)
My friend Robert and I chatted with the Klipsch marketing team a bit, taking in the incredible sound of their speakers and earbuds and exchanged cards with promises to stay in touch.
A few months later I was looking to buy a Gig for myself but saw a few reviews talking about the models having a charging defect.
I emailed my contact to ask if the defect was cleared up and she offered to send me a new model to review and share my thoughts with you.
That was back at the beginning of 2014, and I can tell you that I have truly enjoyed my Gig portable speaker continually since then.
The Klipsch GiG is so super easy to use… no confusing a/v home stereo system to navigate. (Am I the only one who hates dealing with all those buttons and remote controls?)
I just connect it via Bluetooth to my iPhone, cue up the tunes and let it play. I can control the volume right on the speaker or with my phone and the sound quality is fantastic. Seriously… I love this thing! And whatever that charging problem people were having is definitely gone- -I haven’t had any troubles charging- but I don’t have to charge too often, anyway. Even though I use it a LOT, the charge seems to last forever, which is really nice.
I listen to it in my office as I work. I listen to it as I exercise on my stationery bike. I even use it when watching movies or videos on my computer. We listen to it in the kitchen as I cook and we listen to it outside on our patio. It slips right inside my suitcase and has travelled all over the place with me, making hotel rooms feel more like home, in all the good ways.
It’s great indoors and out and it has made me really enjoy all that music I download onto my phone, which is really great.
If you’re looking for a portable speaker with great sound at a reasonable price, I honestly thing the Klipsch GiG Portable Speaker is the way to go. It retails on Amazon for $189, which to me is more than fair for what you get. Even though mine was a gift, I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.
To wrap up, here’s why I love the GiG portable speaker:
- Really great sound quality
- Super-long battery life
- Easy to move around the house
- Easy to pack for travel– and comes with super clever international adapters
Like I said, I wouldn’t describe myself as an audiophile. But now I love to play my music with me all over the place.
And it sounds much better.
