Well, here we are at the end of one year and the beginning of another. I love fresh starts.
In my family, my mom made a major life altering decision one New Year’s Day that may not have been a resolution, but it sure turned out to be one of the best she could have made had she intended it to be. Fortunately it stuck anyhow.
I’ll come back to my mom in a minute but, first, let’s talk about you…
What about you? Did you have one year where you made a big change? Or was there a year you had hoped for a big change but something else came along, good or bad?
Are new year’s resolutions one of your annual traditions?
Week 12’s prompt is:
Did you make New Year’s resolution as a child? As an adult? Are there any you remember in particular?

What is your story?
Tell about one of those things on this week’s Memories to Share sheet and keep it to share later or share it tonight over dinner. You may also share here in the comments, if you’d like. Sharing your stories with others will prove to be valuable both now, as it pulls your family closer together, and in the future, perhaps after you are gone and the memories can still come alive.
So what was my mom’s big decision?
One New Year’s Day I was sick and absolutely miserable and my aunt had just been married the night before. My mom started her day without her usual cup of coffee and cigarette because she was caught up in caring for me and running errands for my aunt. And before she knew it, it was lunchtime and she was doing just fine. She thought she’d play a game with herself to see if she could make it until the afternoon without a cigarette. She did! So she tried to hold out to dinner, and then the next day. And then the week and, well, then, eventually she bet on the rest of her life. She had not planned on that for a new year’s resolution, but it sure stuck– It’s been 25 years since my mom had a cigarette and I am so super proud of her and thankful she made that decision that fell from chaos to a personal challenge that I have no doubt has been excellent for her health. Way to go, Mom!
So… what stories do you have to share? Or to start in 2014?
