A Chapter of Proverbs a Day…
Scripture: Proverbs 8: 34
Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.
Observation: This section of Proverbs is talking about wisdom. I believe the Bible is saying that those who fervently seek wisdom in the Lord will be rewarded.
Application: God wants us to pursue Him and crave the wisdom that comes from Him. I need to be sure that I do not grow complacent in my faith and my relationship with my Father, but instead I must continually study, listen and call out for his guidance.
After reading the Bible in 90 days, I need to re-acclimate myself to slowly taking in portions of the Bible and pondering it, praying about it and letting the wisdom in the words really sink in.
This morning I read the section for today and then tried to really think about it. Then I presented my requests to God which I felt were applicable to the passage. Then I tried my best to clear my mind of distractions and requests and just sat quietly, trying my best to listen to what God had to say, for 5 minutes. (I am glad to report I even went to 6 minutes before checking the clock.)
I need to work on my listening after studying. I think that often that is when I really hear God. But without setting aside listening time in my pursuit of wisdom, I thikn I will miss al ot that He wants to share with me.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for giving me your written word. Thank you for reaching out to me by listening and responding to my prayers. And thank you for reminding me that I can also seek your wisdom by really listening and focusing on you.
Please guide me as I expand my listening time again. Help me to quiet my talking and hear your voice better.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom with me, Lord. I want to grow closer to you and farther from the demands of the world that are not in line with your path for me.
Please, Lord, guide all those reading this today that they might also find the best way to pursue your wisdom. Help all of us to pursue your truth more fervently.
** I’d love to have you join me in reading a chapter of Proverbs a day in April. Feel free to jump in with today’s date!
