Scripture: Colossians 4: 2
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
Observation: Pray, and approach God in thanks and be prepared to listen.
Application: God wants us to spend time with him. Time that is dedicated just to him.
(I am not doing so well at this exact moment, I must confess. My children all of a sudden ‘need’ me, and this is quite a quandary. Next time I will be sure to work harder at doing this before they rise.)
In addition to dedicated time just for him, I think this verse is also telling us to go to him in thanks, no matter our circumstances and to also go to him prepared to listen.
I believe he wants to hear all of our requests. But I don’t think he wants them to be in the form of a laundry list that we dictate and then roll over and go to sleep.
He wants us to be alert. To share. To listen and to appreciate and be truly thankful for his gifts to us.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your forgiveness of my lack of planning this morning. And thank you for guiding me to find a way to spend this time with you, nonetheless. It’s pretty amazing that once I got that point, the kids wandered off and started occupying themselves quite well. Thank you for that.
Please guide me in keeping my prayer life and conversations with you alive, honest and as you would have them. I want our relationship to continue growing. Thank you for wanting the same.
