Scripture: Psalm 85: 8
I will listen to what God the Lord will say;
He promises peace to his people, his saints—
But let them not return to folly,
Observation: It is important to listen to the Lord and then treasure what he has shared in our hearts and not go away from it.
Application: So often I’ll find a scripture that really speaks to me, and pray about it for a day or two and then let it slip away. I believe He is saying here to keep to what we have heard and not allow His messages to us to slip away.
I just finished reading and praying through The Power of a Praying Wife with a group of ladies. We do not want to forget what we have learned and we do not want to stop praying for our husbands as the author of the book instructed us.
Rather than set the book aside, we decided as a group that we would read through and pray one prayer from the book each day of the month.
We are not going to let the messages we have heard from God in reading that book slip away.
On the first of the month we will pray the first chapter’s prayer, in which we pray for ourselves. On the second, we will pray for his work as instructed in chapter two, and so on through the entire month. There are 30 chapters, so the 31st of the month will be free prayer, I guess.
I already have a reminder on my phone that sounds at Noon to remind me pray the Lord’s Prayer, now I will add a prayer for my husband specifically at that time each day.
If you’d like to join me, grab a copy of the book for the full benefit or just pray along. Beginning October 1, I’ll post what I am praying about for my husband each day around Noon CST.
This is my application (and invitation). What is yours?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your consistent and loving counsel. Thank you for showing me one way I can keep your teaching fresh and not stray from it.
I pray that my family will continue to be blessed by my prayers. And I pray that I will find other ways to keep your teaching top of mind.
Please guide all who are following you and studying your Word to find fantastic ways to remain in your Word and keep your teaching in front of them, rather than let it go back on the bookshelf, whether that be after a daily devotion or an intense study.
Guide all of us in keeping your teaching alive and in our hearts.
And thanks, by the way, for sending me to bed when I wanted to write about this last night. How amazing to see that you brought me right back to these thoughts, but this time gave me scripture to back it up! Wow!
